NBL1 Central Mens Recap Round 3

Southern showdown lives up to hype, we learn the importance of being Earnest, Sabres string shooters along, once Warrior Nathan can't stop Double JJ and round finishes with fine Brine

Here is the recap of this round's action

Starling nearly steals Southern showdown

A late flurry of triples from Alex Starling couldn’t steal a hard earnt win by the Southern Tigers in a classic showdown between the rivals 72-75 at the Jungle. Starling went for 29 points and 14 rebounds but unlike their previous last two games struggled to find support for the night. It was different story for the Tigers as three players dropped 17 or more with former Eagles player Christian Artuticho nailing his 17 points at 77 percent from 4 of 6 from the perimeter with 6 rebounds and backed up by Koop McCalop (17 points, 15 rebounds) and import Cameron Coleman (18 points and 7 rebounds).

Fine Brine washes away Rockets

The Eagles bounced back from their loss to the Flames last week by accounting for the North Adelaide Rockets 78-60 at their home of the Nest. It was power-forward Brandon Brine who starred for the night with a huge double double of 19 points at 64 percent and 14 rebounds and for also Greg Mays (20 points and 10 rebounds) covering for a quiet night for Michael Harris. The Rockets were led by their Lions recruit in Jimma Dau with 16 points, 10 rebounds and 3 assists along with Dylan Marshall (15 points and 2 assists).

Importance of being Earnest learnt by Flames

A dynamic powerhouse performance from former NBL Perth Wildcat Earnest Ross has guided the Bearcats to a 91-84 win over the Norwood Flames at the Bearcat Cave. Ross notched huge numbers of 35 points at 48 percent and 16 rebounds along with another former Wildcat in Bryan Michaels with 18 points and 3 assists. CJ Turnage was again the Flames best with 20 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists with new import centre Anthony Green starting to fire up with 18 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists.

Sabres shootdown old rivals in Mavericks

A host of former players from both sides went head-to-head with the Sabres shooting away from the Mavs at the Cave 88-59. Veteran Max Calligeros was dominant for the night to lead all scorers with 15 points with centre Tom Goodall (13 points and 8 rebounds) and rising rookie Kenau Rasmussen (13 points) leading a solid string of contributors. The Mavs had some surprise packets step up with Owen Raneburg (11 points) and Matt Stock (11 points) in the absence of their usual front line contributors in Nash Koko, Paul Aleer and Lachlan Knibbs.

Nathan once a Warrior can’t stop Double JJ

A former Woodville Warrior had a solid night out, but the Lions could not overcome the dynamic double duo of JJ as the Warriors willed their way to a 97-66 win at the Castle. Imports Joe Jackson (27pts and 11 rebounds) and Julian Jacobs with a near triple double of 17 points, 9 rebounds, 11 assists led the way. It was also another "Boon night" for James Boonstoppel with 18 points and 4 assists. Former Warrior Brodie Nathan led the way for the Lions with 14 points and 4 assists while Shaq Maharaj dropped a majority of his 14 points in an attempted third quarter comeback and whilst a little quiet in the first half Lual Diing emerged a potential problem for the home side with 13 points, 8 rebounds and 5 blocks.
