Turnage-ator blocks Flames to famous victory
An ANZAC Day classic played out at the Firedome as the Norwood Flames “Turnage-ator” CJ Turnage blocked Alex Starling in the last play of the match to steal a thrilling 81-80 win over the South Adelaide Panthers. Turnage engineered the finish with 21 points at 52 percent, 6 rebounds and 4 assists in an enthralling battle with star import Starling who himself notched 30 points at 56 percent with 16 rebounds and 4 steals. Along with four other players in double figures, the Flames finally broke away from the Panthers claws only to be reeled back in by Starling, Sam Johns (14 points) and Codey Ellison (14 points and 8 rebounds).
Sabres secure Griscti win over Warriors
A gritty win by the Sturt Sabres at home to the Woodville Warriors decided the ladder leader with the Sabres securing it 76-69 at the Cave. Young forward and college bound player Ben Griscti dropped 25 points with 4 of 6 from beyond the arc and 6 rebounds and was the difference along with fellow young gun Keanu Rasmussen with 16 points including 3 of 6 from the perimeter and 7 rebounds. Warriors import Joe Jackson was a hard man to contain with 18 points at 54.5 percent and 10 rebounds with reliable Luke Stanbridge dropping 17 points.
Machar mashes Mavs in Mount
A highly efficient shooting display from the exciting Machar Machar guided the Southern Tigers to a comfortable with over the Mavs at the Shooting Gallery 70-92. Machar produced 19 points at 87 percent with five other Tigers reaching double figures in an even performance. ANZAC medallist Nick Wurm was an all-round threat with 13 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists the other standout from the six double figure scorers. For the Mavs, Lachy Knibbs hit back after a quiet Friday night with 15 points and 4 rebounds along with recruits Paul Aleer (10 points and 12 rebounds) and Nathaniel Koko (11 points).
Rockets un-Verle Manel to fire to victory
The North Adelaide Rockets launched to their first win of the season with a comprehensive demolition of the West Adelaide Bearcats 91-63 at the Launch Pad. The Rockets high profile guard in Verle Williams was electric with pace and attack from the get go notching 28 points, 9 assists and 4 rebounds along with recently signed recruit Manel Ayol with 20 points, 10 rebounds and 2 assists; a double double on debut. Reliable import centre Tobias Dowdell was also potent with a powerful double double of 18 points, 15 rebounds and 2 blocks.
Eagles win but wounded by brave Lions
The Forestville Eagles eventually got the win but were made to work for it by a brave Central District Lions 85-77 at the Nest. The Eagles went down a man with athletic power forward Brandon Brine sustaining an ankle injury during the contest which gave the Lions the opportunity to charge back into the contest. It was led by new Lions recruit from the Goldfield Giants in WA David Humphries with a double double of 21 points and 10 rebounds including an impressive 5 of 10 from beyond the arc. Lual Diing was the other foil for Humphries with 18 points at 57 percent and 12 rebounds. For the Eagles Greg Mays had a huge afternoon with 28 points and 10 rebounds with Brine and Michael Harris both registering 17 points each.
