West will their way to win in Wild West, Sabres secure seventh, A-May zing Eagles snare Panthers, Tigers take second and Lions leap two clear with Maharaj magic

West will their way to win over Warriors in Wild West

The West Adelaide Bearcats consigned the Woodville Warriors to their third loss in four games and pushed themselves back into the five with a grinding 78-66 win in the Wild West Showdown at the Bearcat Cave. The two stars still led the way for the home side with Earnest Ross dropping 18 points and 13 rebound double double and Bryan “Not George” Michaels with 15 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists but had a big contribution from young athletic big Lachie Hunter with 13 points, 5 rebounds and 2 big blocks. The Warriors were well held but centre Joe Jackson still dropped a biggie with 20 points and 16 rebounds while Julian Jacobs despite foul trouble plaguing him throughout the night notched 17 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists.  

Sabres secure seventh in a row off strong Flames

The Sturt Sabres have secured top of the ladder and their seventh win outlasting a fired up Norwood Flames 77-97 at the Firedome. The Sabres jumped out to a half-time lead of 53-29 before the Flames reeled them back, the Sabres once again doing it by committee. The standouts tonight were Max Calligeros with 19 points at 81 percent and 6 rebounds, Ben Griscti with 17 points at 77 percent, Sam Daly with 16 points and Joel Spear with 15 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 3 steals. The Flames CJ Turnage turned it on again with 18 points at 60 percent, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and had a good hand from Matt Lycett with 14 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists.    

A-Mays-zing Eagles snare Panthers in Jungle

A 9-24 second quarter led by the damaging Greg Mays saw the Forestville Eagles bounce back with a big 57-81 win over the South Adelaide Panthers at the Jungle. Mays dominated the night playing the full night from start to finish with 27 points, 5 rebounds, 3 blocks and some massive dunks. Michael Harris also bounced back from his quietish one against the Sabres with 20 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists along with Jake Rios nailing 4-9 from beyond the arc for his 18 points. The Panthers struggled for some large numbers but still got solid contributions from Alex Starling with a double double of 15 points and 14 rebounds and 13 points to Sam Johns and the perimeter man Adam Brown.   

Tigers take second after tussle with Rockets

The Southern Tigers have roared their way into second place on the table clawing away the North Adelaide Rockets in the second half 83-79 at the Cage. Cameron “The Truth” Coleman brought it again with 19 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists along with Koop McCalop (17 points at 66 percent and 5 rebounds) and guard Nick Wurm (17 points, 6 rebounds and assists). Jack Purchase fresh off some minor minutes for the Adelaide 36ers was again the best for North with 26 points, 10 rebounds and 3 assists with Tobias Dowdell with 20 points and 4 rebounds.

Lions leap two clear with Maharaj magic

The Central District Lions have gone two games clear of ninth spot on the table to leap away with a 78-100 win away from home against the Eastern Mavericks at the Shooting Gallery. Shaquille Maharaj continued a rich vein of form knocking down 29 points including 4 triples, 6 assists and 4 rebounds ably supported by Lual Diing and Magok Manyang with 14 points each. Will “III” Wise welcomed himself back to the home court with a double double of 15 points and 11 rebounds while Lachy Knibbs stepped it up as needed with 23 points at 64.3 percent and 5 rebounds.
