Former Adelaide 36ers teammates Adam Doyle and Daniel Johnson had a night out for the Forestville Eagles on Saturday night in Round 6 of the NBL1 Central Men's competition with wins also for the Southern Tigers, Woodville Warriors, Sturt Sabres and North Adelaide Rockets.

There were five matches across the NBL1 Central Men's competition on Saturday night to open Round 6 of the 2022 season.

It was a tight affair most of the way at STARplex before the Southern Tigers prevailed 95-88 against the Central District Lions.

Lachlan Olbrich put up 29 points and 12 rebound for the Tigers with Nathaniel Koko finishing with 26 points and 10 boards for the Lions.

It was a big win for Daniel Johnson, Adam Doyle and the Forestville Eagles, beating the Eastern Mavericks 121-84 at St Francis de Sales Community Sports Centre.

Johnson finished with 21 points, 20 rebounds and seven assists, and Doyle 27 points, 10 assists and sis rebounds for Forestville. James Legan finished with 32 points for the Mavericks.

It was a closer contest at Springbank Secondary College with the Sturt Sabres holding on at home 86-77 against the Norwood Flames.

Sam Daly delivered 20 points, five rebounds and four assists for the Sabres with Ray Harding finishing with 15 points for Norwood.

It was an impressive performance from the North Adelaide Rockets to defeat the West Adelaide Bearcats 92-77 at Port Adelaide Recreation Centre.

Jamar Akoh was impressive for the Rockets with 25 point while Tery Winn added 17 points and 17 rebounds with Luke Cadzow scoring 15 points for the Bearcats.

The Woodville Warriors were able to come from behind and dominate the fourth quarter to beat the Scott Ninnis-less South Adelaide Panthers 91-82 at Marion Basketball Stadium.

Jawan Stepney scored 22 points for Woodville and Dave Humphries 20 with Alex Starling scoring 32 points for South Adelaide.

Round 6 in the NBL1 Central Men's competition will now rap up on Sunday afternoon at Springbank Secondary College between the Sturt Sabres and Forestville Eagles.

CENTRAL DISTRICT LIONS 88 lost to SOUTHERN TIGERS 95

The Southern Tigers were able to overcome the Central District Lions on Saturday night to record their second win of the NBL1 Central Men's season.

The Lions and Tigers did battle at STARplex and little separated them throughout the night with the Tigers leading 29-25 by the of the opening quarter.

They extended that advantage narrowly to 49-44 for the half-time interval and then it was the Tigers still leading 74-69 at three quarter-time.

They then did enough with another 21 points to 19 in the fourth quarter to come away with the 95-88 victory to improve to 2-4 on the season while Centrals are now 1-4.

Fresh off his NBL season as a development player with the Adelaide 36ers, Lachlan Olbrich put up 29 points, 12 rebounds and four assists for the Tigers with Ricardo Martin contributing 23 points and 12 boards.

Vionte Daniels added 21 points, six rebounds, six assists and four steals with Jamie Smith contributing seven points, four rebounds and two assists.

The Tracy York-coached Central Districts got 26 points, 10 rebounds and five assists out of Nathaniel Koko with Bijan Johnson adding 22 points and six assists, Nate Deer 13 points and 11 rebounds, and Tobias Dowdell 10 points and eight boards.

 

EASTERN MAVERICKS 84 lost to FORESTVILLE EAGLES 121

The Forestville Eagles offered a glimpse into what they could be capable of this season with a thumping road win over the Eastern Mavericks on Saturday night.

Daniel Johnson had a mixed opening to his NBL1 Central season last week with a scoreless outing for the Eagles, but that was anything but the case on Saturday night at St Francis de Sales Community Sports Centre against the Mavericks.

The Eagles were firing offensively in the first half putting up 58 points into the half-time break, but the Mavs had done well to not be blown away and to only be 10 points at the half.

Forestville then really put their foot down in the second half with 38 points in the third quarter and 25 in the fourth while holding the Mavs to 36 points the entire half to end up winning 121-84.

It was a dominant performance from the Eagles on a number of fronts including them pulling in 64 rebounds to 32 including 27 at the offensive end to nine. They also shot 49.4 per cent from the field and knocked down 17/36 from three-point land.

Just eight days after winning his seventh Adelaide 36ers MVP award, Daniel Johnson delivered 21 points, 20 rebounds and seven assists for Forestville.

His former Sixers teammate Adam Doyle also finished with 27 points, 10 assists and six rebounds with Brandon Brine adding 23 points, 12 boards and four assists, Fiston Ipassou 18 points, seven rebounds and five assists, and Greg Mays 10 points and four rebounds.

James Legan had a big nigh for the Mavericks with 32 points including hitting 7/15 from three-point range while Keouvion McCalop contributed 20 points and nine rebounds, Lachlan Knibbs 10 points, and Owen Raneberg nine points and four rebounds.

 

SOUTH ADELAIDE PANTHERS 82 lost to WOODVILLE WARRIORS 91

The Woodville Warriors were able to finish full of running and overpower the South Adelaide Panthers on the road on Saturday night.

The Panthers came into the game without head coach Scott Ninnis or Sam Johns, but they still put up 32 points in the first quarter to lead by seven by quarter-time.

They extended that lead with another 25 points to 19 in the second quarter to head into half-time leading 57-44.

However, South Adelaide couldn’t maintain the rage and after scoring the 57 points in the first half, they managed just 25 in the second including only five in the fourth quarter.

The Warriors were then able to finish full of running and put up 22 points in the last term to come away from Marion Basketball Stadium with the 91-82 victory.

Jawan Stepney stepped up for Woodville to finish with 22 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals on 9/13 shooting from the field.

Dave Humphries added 20 points, eight rebounds, five assists and five steals with Riley Meldrum contributing 18 points, four rebounds and three assists, Joe Jackson 12 points and eight rebounds, and James Boonstoppel 10 points, three boards and two assists.

Alex Starling did all he could to try and help South Adelaide hold on with 32 points, 10 rebounds and five steals while knocking down 5/8 from three-point range.

Todd Davies added 22 points and four assists for the Panthers, Jarryd Hoppo 13 points, four rebounds, three steals and two assists. It was a tough night for Jeremy Smith with just two points and four assists on 1/13 shooting.

 

STURT SABRES 86 defeated NORWOOD FLAMES 77

The Sturt Sabres were able to hold out a late flurry from the Norwood Flames on Saturday night to record their fourth win of the NBL1 Central season.

The Sabres were at home at Springbank Secondary College and they started impressively putting up 27 points to 18 in the first quarter. Sturt maintained that edge to still lead 50-41 at half-time.

The Sabres were able to pull away further with 19 points to 14 in the third, and they were able to hang on in the fourth term to claim the 86-77 win.

The result improves Sturt to a 4-1 record on the season while the Flames are now 2-3 following the defeat.

The Sabres dominated the glass with 52 rebounds to 32 from Norwood including 18 offensive boards to five.

Sam Daly top-scored for Sturt with 20 points, five rebounds and four assists with Joel Spear adding 16 points and eight boards, Jacob Rigoni 15 points and eight rebounds, Daniel Nash 13 points, and Max Calligeros 10 points and six rebounds.

Ray Harding finished with 15 points and four rebounds for the Flames, Anthony Green 13 points, seven rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks, Matt Lycett 12 points, and Daniel Webber 11 points and five boards.

 

WEST ADELAIDE BEARCATS 77 lost to NORTH ADELAIDE ROCKETS 92

The North Adelaide Rockets remain the lone undefeated team this NBL1 Central Men's season after beating the West Adelaide Bearcats on Saturday night.

The Rockets started the game at Port Adelaide Recreation Centre on fire with 30 points to 12 in the opening quarter.

They continued on in the second quarter with another 30 points to lead the Bearcats 60-30 at half-time.

That proved a match-winning advantage but to the credit of West Adelaide they did win the second half with 47 points to 32.

However, the Rockets still won the game comfortably 92-77 to improve to a perfect 5-0 record on the season while the Bearcats are now 2-4.

It was a tremendous shooting performance in the first half from the Rockets but even by full-time they'd still gone 36/68 at 52.9 per cent as a team opposed to 37.0 per cent from the Bearcats.

Jamar Akoh top-scored for North Adelaide with 25 points and seven rebounds with Brad Rathjen contributing 17 points and five assists, and Terry Winn 17 points, 17 rebounds and five assists.

Riley Harrap added 13 points and four rebounds, and Dylan Marshall 11 points and two assists.

Luke Cadzow top-scored for West Adelaide with 15 points, four rebounds and four assists with George-Andre Washington contributing 10 points and six rebounds, and Lucas Valk nine points, seven boards, three steals and two assists.
