Flames scorching last quarter ends Southern run
A 26-6 final quarter from the four in a row Norwood Flames has ended the streak of the Southern Tigers at 13 as they upset the unbeaten ladder leading ladies 73-59 at the Firedome. The home side trailed by as much as 8 in the final quarter before they reeled off a barrage of buckets through various players to edge the unbeaten Tigers. Ally Wilson went off again for 25 points, 16 rebounds and 11 assists in the most telling triple double of the season along with partner in crime Genna Anderson (23 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists). The Tigers were once again led by Teige Morrell with 21 points, 14 rebounds and 5 assists and Morgan Yaeger with 17 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists.
Titanic Thompson wanes off Warriors
33 points and 30 rebounds from superstar Olivia Thompson has seen the South Adelaide Panthers to a tough win over the wilful Woodville Warriors 68-57 at Michael Ah Matt Court. It took till the final quarter for the home side to hold off the away side who got a double double from their recently re-signed forward/centre Emily Winter with 17 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and steals. Thompson’s titanic haul included a league high 14 offensive rebounds in a dominant display.
Saved by Smith Sabres squeeze over Eagles
The wide-open catch under the hoop to import Kylee Smith has extended the Sturt Sabres streak to four as they squeezed over the top of the Forestville Eagles 75-74 at the Cave. Smith finished with 23 points and 13 rebounds and was the catalyst along with Jade Johnson (who struck 22 points at 61 percent) in the final quarter as the Sabres came from 9 points down. The Eagles got another highly efficient one from Sam Simons (21 points at 64 percent, 5 rebounds and assists) and fellow Adelaide Lightning player Brooke Basham (23 points) but the loss for the Eagles was their second of their season by a single basket and slipped them to fourth on the table.
McKendrick muscles Mavs to third win of season
The Eastern Mavericks have won their third game of the season in their most complete performance over the West Adelaide Bearcats at the Shooting Gallery 72-59. A mighty Molly McKendrick second half took the home side to their third win as she dropped 29 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Rachel Hines played some starring minutes as well with 22 points and 12 rebounds in her double double while for West Jennie Rintala was well held all night but still managed one of her own with 15 points and 12 rebounds.
Rockets roll to fifth with win over Lions
The North Adelaide Rockets have comfortably taken care of the Central District Lions and claimed fifth for now on the table in their 52-96 win at the Den. A pair of 20 point games from Sam Defrancesco (69 percent) and Jess Good (71 percent and 5 steals) led the way for the away side as they shot 55.17 percent from the field as a unit. Erin Boyd produced her best game of the season for the home side with 13 points at 60 percent.
