McKendrick Matchup can’t tame Panthers
Mollie McKendrick (21 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists) did her best to claim a win over the Panthers but the weapons of South Adelaide swamped the Mavs 75-103 on their home court of St Francis. Olivia Thompson was huge once again with 27 points and 17 rebounds along with Ash Spencer (19 points and 12 rebounds), Teresa McGreehan (15 points) and a highly efficient Hannah Stewart (14 points at 67 percent). For the Mavs Mckendrick did have plenty of assistance on the night with Keidiesha Kartinyeri (17 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists) and Chloe Dumesny (17 points) all hitting back with big supporting games.
Wilson wills Flames but Brett steals it
The Forestville Eagles overcame an Ally Wilson welcome to the league as they stole the game from the Flames across the second half 65-68 at the ARC. The comeback led by Sam Simons double double (19 points and 12 rebounds), and 17 points from surprise packet Jordy Freer (17 points and 6 rebounds) saw the Eagles to a 23-32 second half. Wilson in her first game for the season after missing last week with national commitments had an incredible triple double of 21 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists as the Adelaide Lightning guard gave the Flames along with Genna Anderson (17 points and 11 rebounds) and Paige Kennihan (15 points) the lead across the first half. It was Aimee Brett (12 points and 7 rebounds) who scored the go ahead bucket with scores tied at 65-65 a piece within the last minute that completed the comeback for the Eagles.
Teige tames Bearcats after first quarter onslaught
A 20-3 opening term from the home side saw the Tigers claim a crucial early second win in a row 60-54 in a low scoring contest at Morphett Vale Stadium. Tiger import centre Teige Morrell was the dominant player along with Adelaide Lightning back-up guard Morgan Yaeger until she suffered an injury late in the second quarter. They quelled the influence of WNBL Bendigo Spirit player Jennie Rintala and her young front court of the Bearcats.
Lions put to the Sabre by Sturt
A scintillating Sabre like performance from Jade Johnson put the Lions in a sty after they went down 40-132 at Starplex. Johnson shot 38 points (8 of 11 from beyond the arc) at 80 percent from the field and was ably assisted by import Kylee Smith (24 points and 7 rebounds). For the Lions Maddy Curry got her season going with 9 points at 60 percent to lead the way for the Pride.
Taylor swift shooting puts Warriors on ice
Adelaide Lightning utility Taylor Ortlepp led her choir for the Rockets as they blasted away from the Woodville Warriors 96-65 at the Lights. Ortlepp had 20 points, 6 rebounds and 10 assists along with shooter Sam Defrancesco and recruit Rachel Mate who also had 20 points for the night. Jess Good also hauled in 22 rebounds to dominate the glass while the Warriors Emily Winter (18 points, 20 rebounds and 4 rebounds) and Chloe Purvis (18 points) made strong contributions for Woodville.
