NBL1 Central Womens Recap Round 3

Bearcats Keeley good, Tigers show claws, Simons soars, Jade a gem yet again and Winter rains spoil bright Rummery-Lamb

Here is the recap of this round's action

Southern show claws in showdown with South

It was a big night between the Panthers and the Tigers but it was the away side that clawed their way to the front and were never headed as they rebounded their way to a 62-91 win over their rivals at the Jungle. Import centre Teige Morrell led the way for the Tigers with 22 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists but with floor general Morgan Yaeger (12 points and 4 assists) and powerful forward Jemma Thacker (16 points) also chiming in, the Tigers roared against their ABC 2020 challengers of the Panthers. Olivia Thompson (22 points and 12 rebounds) was under pressure all night despite her big numbers whereas Teresa McGreehan was the best for the home side with 15 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists.

Simons soars as Rockets shot down

Forestville Eagle star Sam Simons showed her stardom as she dropped 35 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists in the Eagles win over the Rockets 71-58 at the Nest. Simons led from the front alongside a fired-up Aimee Cotton (12 points, 8 rebounds) in the absence of star guard Brooke Basham. The Rockets got good production from Jess Good with 17 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists while NBL1 North recruit Rachel Mate operated well for 17 points at 60 percent and 4 assists but Sam Defrancesco and Taylor Ortlepp were well held throughout the night by the Eagles defence.

Flames burnt Keeley well

A lights out shooting display from Keeley Pearce snuffed out any last quarter comeback from the Norwood Flames as the Bearcats grabbed an important win at their home of the Bearcat Cave 80-75. Pearce dropped an NBL1 Central season high of 9 of 12 from beyond the arc for her 29 points while adding 4 rebounds and 2 blocks with import forward Jennie Rintala adding 19 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists. Superstar for the Flames Alex Wilson played all 40 minutes to narrowly miss a triple double of 20 points, 11 assists and 9 rebounds but it was a breakout game for New Mexico Lobos recruit Bride Kennedy-Hopoate with 22 points as she nearly got the Flames home.

Jade continues Sabres sharp start

The Sturt Sabres have comfortably accounted for the Eastern Mavericks at their home of the Cave 80-51. Star guard Jade Johnson was the standout once again backing up her 38 points from last week with 26 points and 7 rebounds and was ably supported by import forward Kylee Smith with 14 points and 4 assists and Nicola Mathews with 12 points and 7 assists. The Mavs were once again led by their two stars in Mollie McKendrick (15 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists) and Kedeisha Kartinyeri (15 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists).

Winter rains on Lions leap

The Woodville Warriors overcame the Central District Lions but not before the young cubs put up a huge fight 69-52 at the Castle. Star forward Emily Winter blitzed the Lions in the second half with 17 points, 14 rebounds and 3 assists but throughout the comtest, it was Deanna Troia setup their lead with a 16 points at 55 percent and 5 rebounds. The Lions have one to watch with April Rummery-Lamb dropping 23 points and 7 rebounds with Sam Kennett (10 pts and 8 rebounds) helping her keep the Lions in the contest till deep in the fourth quarter.
