Dour Bearcats deny Warriors in Wild West Showdown
The Womens Wild West Showdown has been won by the West Adelaide Bearcats shutting down the Warriors in two dour quarters of defence 83-42 at the Bearcats Cave. A 19-7 and 17-7 second and third quarter was led by resuming starter and Adelaide Lightning guard Jasmin Fejo with 15 points and 5 assists and veteran Skye “Left” Langenbrinck with 16 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists. The Bearcats dominated the glass with 51-33 where they controlled the game from the end of the first quarter. For the Warriors, Emily Winter was well held with 13 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists with not many other winners for the Warriors in a tough night for the next-door neighbours.
Sabres sixth douses under-lit Flames
The Sturt Sabres opened with a 9-25 quarter to help them march on to a 6-1 in season 2021 dousing the under-lit Norwood Flames 70-107 at the Firedome. Star guard Jade Johnson continued a sensational season lodging 24 points and 3 assists assisted by Nicola Mathews with 20 points and a season high to one to watch in Tayla Brazel with 19 points at 58 percent and 5 rebounds. The Flames missing Bride Kennedy-Hopoate to injury were led by a ginormous Genna Anderson double double of 35 points and 11 rebounds with Alex Wilson quelled with 12 points, 8 rebounds and assists but only just missing her triple double.
Basham blitz overshadowed by O of Thompson
Returning Adelaide Lightning 2020 DP Brooke Basham lit up the first half with 21 points but the South Adelaide Panthers clipped the Forestville Eagles in the second half to run away to a solid 86-70 win at the Jungle. It was the O of Olivia Thompson in the 41-23 second half guiding the Panthers with 31 points and 12 rebounds and Ash “Splash” Spencer with 24 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists in their double doubles. Hannah Stewart continues to impact in the league as well with 15 points at 67 percent. For the Eagles, Basham finished with 24 points along with newly signed Adelaide Lightning utility Sam Simons with 17 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists.
Yaeger pulls Tigers over fired up Rockets
A third quarter assertion from star guard Morgan Yaeger has pulled the Southern Tigers over the North Adelaide Rockets 80-73 at the Cage. Yaeger finished with 25 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists with fellow star big Teige Morrell putting in some more big numbers with 24 points at 62.5 percent, 9 rebounds and 4 huge blocks. The Rockets were led by another huge double double from Jess Good with 20 points and 13 rebounds with Sam Defrancesco dropping 17 points and Taylor Ortlepp 14 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists.
Moffat and hungry Wolff get Mavs first W
It took six players to get double figures to get the Eastern Mavericks their first win of the season at their home of the Shooting Gallery over the Central District Lions 94-45. Taylor Moffatt dropped 19 points and was well backed up by Natasha Van Der Wolff with 13 points, newcomer Rachel Hines and Chelsea Green with 12 points and Mollie McKendrick notching a double double of 11 points and 12 rebounds. The Lions were led by April Rummery-Lamb with 12 points and 9 rebounds and Meaza Otto found some scoring form with 11 points, 3 rebounds and assists.
