Morrell monsters Warriors for eighth at Castle
The Southern Tigers have won their eighth game in a row as they crushed the Woodville Warriors at the Castle 52-96. Teige Morrell monstered the Warriors with an enormous double double of 37 points at 72.22 percent, 22 rebounds and 6 steals along with a near triple double to Morgan Yaeger of 9 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. The Warriors had few winners with Emily Winter kept quiet it was left to Deanna Troia to put up 12 points and 6 rebounds.
Brazel-liant performance puts Panthers on ice
The Sturt Sabres have won their seventh in a row as they pushed out a tough South Adelaide Panthers 83-69 in the finish at the Cave; but the match was much closer than the final scoreline suggested. The Panthers forced the Sabres into five shot clock violations in numerous contested and late shot clock shots but a young 17-year-old Tayla Brazel lit up the Panthers after half-time. Brazel drilled 25 points at 60 percent including 6 of 10 from beyond the arc and 6 rebounds and was well supported by a double double from import Kylee Smith with 25 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists; 17 coming all in the first half. Olivia Thompson was the best for the Panthers with 20 points at 62 percent (with 8/8 from her first eight shots), 8 rebounds and 4 assists along with Jordan Hunter aggressive with 17 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds and 3 steals.
Simons sees Eagles over line in Nest thriller against Bearcats
Three free throws to newly signed Adelaide Lightning recruit Sam Simons saw the Eagles cancel out Michaela Lappin’s late triple to edge the West Adelaide Bearcats 70-69 in a thriller at the Nest. Simons finished with a double double of 31 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocks along with Brooke Basham dropping 16 points. The Bearcats had a huge night from Jennie Rintala with 27 points and 15 rebounds and Skye “Left” Langenbrinck with 21 points.
Sammy shoots down Mavs at Lights
A Captain’s contribution from Sammy Defrancesco has seen the North Adelaide Rockets to a comfortable win over the Eastern Mavericks 73-52 at the Launch Pad. Defrancesco dropped 23 points at 61.54 percent and added a double double with 11 rebounds along with Jess Good’s 13 points and rebounds. The Mavs got a spread of contributors with a double double of 10 and 10 to Rachel Hines and Mollie McKendrick (10 points and 13 rebounds).
Wilson walks Flames over Lions
The Norwood Flames have torched the Central District Lions to halt a two-game losing streak at the Den 47-101. A huge third quarter blew the game apart after the brave Lions fought hard in the first half. Ally Wilson hit back hard after being well contained the past few weeks with 35 points at 61.9 percent including 7 triples from the perimeter with Genna Anderson knocking down 14 points as well. The Lions had a career high 23 points from April Rummery-Lamb that kept them in the contest in the first half.
