The NBL1 East season resumed on Saturday and along with the win for the Bears, there were Round 10 victories for the Central Coast Crusaders, Inner West Bulls, Albury-Wodonga Bandits, Maitland Mustangs and Sutherland Sharks.

It was an overtime thriller to open proceedings in Round 10 on Saturday afternoon with the Norths Bears ending up prevailing 86-82 against the Canberra Gunners.

Brennan Dymer finished with 23 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds for the Bears with Iggy Mitchell adding 22 points and nine boards. Glenn Morison put up 22 points and 15 rebounds for the Gunners.

The Central Coast Crusaders continued to build some momentum this season defeating the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles 81-69 away from home on Saturday afternoon.

James Trustum put up 26 points and 11 rebounds in the win for the Crusaders with Indiana Faithful continuing his standout form for the Sea Eagles with another 24 points, six assists and five rebounds.

It was a big win at home on Saturday as well for the Inner West Bulls who defeated the Illawarra Hawks 97-77.

Chier Maker delivered 17 points in the win for the Bulls with Chol Adup adding 16 points. Former NBL veteran Lucas Walker battled hard for the Hawks with 18 points and four assists.

The Albury-Wodonga Bandits improved to a 7-5 record on the season with the 80-69 home victory on Saturday evening against the Bankstown Bruins.

Duom Dawam put up 21 points and 17 rebounds for the Border Bandits with Jacob Cincurak contributing 16 points and five boards. Jack Lopez delivered 20 points for Bankstown.

It was an emphatic home victory on Saturday evening as well for the Maitland Mustangs who defeated the Newcastle Falcons 93-71.

Will Cranston had a strong night for the Mustangs with 19 points, five rebounds and five assists with James Hunter adding 17 points and eight boards. Myles Cherry led the charge for the Falcons with 18 points and 18 rebounds.

The night then ended with a heartstopper between the Sutherland Sharks and Hills Hornets, and it was the visiting Sharks who won 74-72.

Archer Woodhill finished with 14 points and seven rebounds for Sutherland with Paul Brotherson delivering 25 points for the Hornets.

Round 10 in the NBL1 East competition will now wrap up with one more game on Sunday afternoon at 3pm with the Canberra Gunners at home to the Bankstown Bruins with both teams backing up from matches on Saturday.

MANLY WARRINGAH SEA EAGLES 69 lost to CENTRAL COAST CRUSADERS 81

The Central Coast Crusaders led virtually all afternoon on the way to a 12-point win against the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles on Saturday at Northern Beaches Indoor Sports Centre.

The two teams did battle on Saturday afternoon to open Round 10 in the NBL1 East and after Manly-Warringah were able to lead early on by three points, Central Coast soon took over despite being away from home.

The Crusaders went on a run of scoring eight consecutive points to lead by as much as six and to still lead 23-19 by quarter-time.

The visitors pulled away further in the second quarter scoring another seven straight points to lead by as much as 17 at one stage, and to be in control 44-33 by half-time.

Central Coast was able to extend that advantage to 15 points by three quarter-time and then the Crusaders were able to consolidate that into the 81-69 victory.

The results means that Central Coast improves to a 5-7 record on the season following 10 rounds while Manly-Warringah are now 5-8.

James Trustum led the charge for the Crusaders with 26 points and 11 rebounds with Callum Jenkins contributing 13 points and four boards, Oliver Robilliard 12 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals, and Nick Wooller 12 points and four rebounds.

Indiana Faithful did all he could to keep the Sea Eagles in the contest to end up with 24 points, six assists and five rebounds with Kyle Painter contributing 13 points and five boards, Daniel Pitcher 10 points, Matthew Wacher nine, and Zackary Kimball eight.

 

CANBERRA GUNNERS 82 lost to NORTHS BEARS 86

It was a cracking overtime contest on Saturday in the NBL1 East action at Belconnen Basketball Stadium with the Norths Bears ending up beating the Canberra Gunners by four points.

The Gunners hosted the Bears and produced quite the stirring fightback to force the game into overtime in a dramatic Round 10 contest.

The Bears led by as much as nine points in the first quarter before still being up 16-13 by quarter-time before the visitors stretched their lead out further in the second period.

Norths delivered a run of 11 straight points to lead by as much as 11 and then going into the half-time break in control up 43-28.

The Bears remained in control leading by 14 points at three quarter-time, but Canberra wasn’t about to lie down and they went on a 12-0 scoring run in the fourth quarter to set up a thrilling finish.

In the end it was a James Toohey steal for the Bears on Brennan Rymer before he got it to Will Mayfield for the dunk that saw the game go to overtime with scores tied at 74-74.

Then in the extra period, the Bears ended up prevailing with 12 points to eight to secure the 86-82 victory to improve to a 5-6 record on the season by the end of Round 10 while Canberra went to 8-3 ahead of taking on the Bankstown Bruins on Sunday.

Brennan Rymer ended the game with 23 points, 10 assists and nine rebounds for the Bears with Iggy Mitchell also contributing 22 points and nine boards.

Patrick Sanders also had 15 points, eight rebounds and four assists for Norths, and Ben Fakira seven points and five boards.

Glenn Morison finished the evening's match up with 22 points and 15 rebounds for Canberra while Will Mayfield added 21 points, seven boards and six assists, James Toohey 16 points and seven assists, and Akech Aliir eight points and nine rebounds.

 

MAITLAND MUSTANGS 93 defeated NEWCASTLE FALCONS 71

Despite the Newcastle Falcons remaining on top of the NBL1 East standings after Round 10, the Maitland Mustangs handed them a 22-point hiding at home on Saturday.

The Mustangs hosted the league-leading Falcons on Saturday evening at Maitland Federation Centre and ended up producing their best performance of the season.

Maitland were on top virtually all evening as well going on an 8-0 run to lead by seven points at the end of the first quarter.

The Mustangs took over further in the second period with 26 points to 14 and to lead by as much as 20 points at one stage, and to go into the half-time break leading 48-29.

There would be no fightback from Newcastle either with Maitland stretching their lead to as much as 28 points throughout the second half on the way to recording the eventual 93-71 victory.

Newcastle remains on top of the table with an 8-3 record at the end of Round 10 despite the defeat while the win improves Maitland to a 6-6 record in seventh position.

Will Cranston delivered 19 points, five rebounds, five assists and two steals for Maitland while James Hunter contributed 17 points and eight boards.

Matthew Gray also had 14 points and seven rebounds, Jack Edwards nine points and seven assists, Daniel Millburn nine points and seven boards, and Scott McGann nine points.

Myles Cherry finished with 18 points and 18 rebounds despite the loss for Newcastle with Ryan Beisty contributing 16 points and six boards, Matur Maluach eight points, and Jaidyn Goodwin eight points and three rebounds.

 

HILLS HORNETS 72 lost to SUTHERLAND SHARKS 74

The Sutherland Sharks claimed a heart stopping two-point victory on the road to the Hills Hornets on Saturday night in NBL1 East action.

The Hornets were at home to the Sharks at Hills Basketball Stadium and the home team was able to get off to the scorching start scoring 11 straight points in the first quarter and to lead by as much as 12 points.

Hills were still on top 24-15 by the end of the opening quarter and the Hornets were able to consolidate that in the second quarter to remain leading 40-33 going into half-time.

Sutherland fired back during the third period, though, outscoring the Hornets 20 points to 13 and that meant scores were all square by three quarter-time.

The Sharks continued that momentum going with a 9-0 run to lead by six with four and-a-half minutes on the clock following a Geoff Gerlach three-point bomb.

A Paul Brotherson three ball soon brought back the Hornets within a point and then Marvin Fidel finished at the rack after a turnover for the home team to level scores up.

In the end, though, it was a Lochlan Hutchison three-point bomb with time running out that secured the deal for Sutherland. Two free-throws from Gerlach stretched the Sharks to a five-point lead and they won 74-72 after a triple on the buzzer for the Hornets from Ben Kearins.

Archer Woodhill ended up top-scoring for the Sharks in the thrilling win with 14 points and seven rebounds while Geoff Gerlach added 13 points, eight boards, four assists and two blocked shots.

Lochlan Hutchison had 11 points and five rebounds to go with the game winning shot with Bailey Mosulin also contributing seven points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals.

Paul Brotherson finished the night with 25 points on 5/8 shooting from downtown for the Hornets with Marvin Fidel contributing 14 points and three assists, and Ben Kearins 13 points, seven rebounds, six assists and four steals.

 

INNER WEST BULLS 97 defeated ILLAWARRA HAWKS 77

The Inner West Bulls outscored the Illawarra Hawks by 20 points in the third quarter on Saturday night and that was the margin they ended up winning by.

The Bulls played host the Hawks at ELS Hall Park on Saturday night in Round 10 of the NBL1 East competition, and it was a close opening quarter with Inner West ending up leading 20-18 by quarter-time.

The Bulls were able to score nine straight points as well during the second quarter to open up a 15-point advantage, and by half-time the home side was still on top 52-41.

Inner West then blew the game further open in the third quarter with 32 points to 12 and the lead was out to as high as 31 points at one stage.

While Illawarra did win the last quarter, that only limited the final margin with the Bulls ending up winning 97-77.

The result saw Inner West improve to a 7-4 record on the season at the end of Round 10 while Illawarra is now 7-5 following the defeat.

Chier Maker finished with 17 points, three rebounds and three assists for the Bulls while Chol Adup contributed 16 points, Johnny Crnogorac 11 points and eight boards, Christian Maran 11 points and 13 rebounds, Alex Higgins-Titsha 11 points and eight boards, and Kaylan Baker 10 points, four rebounds, three steals and two assists.

Lucas Walker showed he's still got plenty left in the tank putting up 18 points and four assists for the Hawks while Harry Morris had 15 points and seven boards, and Fletcher MacDonald 14 points and eight rebounds.

 

ALBURY-WODONGA BANDITS 80 defeated BANKSTOWN BRUINS 69

The Albury-Wodonga Bandits shook off a slow start against the Bankstown Bruins on Saturday night to end up scoring a solid 11-point victory.

The Bandits were at home to the Bruins at Lauren Jackson Sports Centre but it was the visitors who started the better to lead by as much as 12 points in the opening quarter and to still be on top 22-13 by quarter-time.

Albury-Wodonga were able to soon turn the tide, though, and at one stage of the second quarter they went on a 10-0 run to take over the lead and never again surrendered it.

The home team ended up outscoring the Bruins 30 points to 18 in the second term to take a 43-40 lead into half-time.

The Border Bandits kept the momentum going after the break too with another 16 points to eight in the third period, and then they cruised to the 80-69 victory from there.

The victory saw the Bandits improve to a 7-5 record on the season after Round 10 while the Bruins went to 1-10 before taking on Canberra on Sunday to close the weekend's action.

Duom Dawam finished the evening with 21 points, 17 rebounds and three assists for Albury-Wodonga with Jacob Cincurak contributing 16 points, five boards and two assists.

Kieran Hayward added 13 points, 10 assists, six rebounds and three steals for the Bandits, Lochlan Cummings 11 points, two assists and two steals, and Hamish Warden nine points and eight boards.

Jack Lopez led the scoring with 20 points for Bankstown with Dragan Elkaz adding 13 points and 13 rebounds, and Chris Vera 10 points.
