In some Sunday action of some NBL1 East hoops,  check out how the four games went below:

Women’s

Canberra Nationals (54) def by Newcastle Falcons (88)

After losing to Albury yesterday, the Falcons made sure to get a win on their road trip beating Canberra in convincing fashion. Newcastle’s Nicole Munger had a triple-double with a game-high 27 points and teammate Chyra Evans was one rebound away from a five-by-five with 23 points, five assists, four rebounds, five steals and six blocks.

No one player for the Nationals was able to make a dent into Newcastle’s defence, their leading scorer was Mia Slater with 12 points but it was a collective offence as five players scored seven points or more for Canberra.

Maitland Mustangs (60) def by Norths Bears (91)

The Bears came into town and took care of business in the 31-point win, all five starters scored in double-digits and Sarah Schicher led the way with 14 points and 19 rebounds. Jessica Bygate also had a double-double with 18 points and 15 rebounds.

The Mustangs struggled from the field, only shooting 34 percent but Mikaela Dombkins did her best with 19 points and 11 rebounds.

The Bears are comfortably within the top three of the East and it will be an interesting battle among the top four, especially with the FIBA Women’s World Cup taking place during the finals in the East.

Men’s

Canberra Gunners (95) def Newcastle (68)

The top of the ladder Gunners have taken down the second on the ladder Falcons in a tone-setting win come East finals. Mitch Brown led Canberra scoring 18 points while Glenn Morrison was outstanding with 17 points and 14 rebounds.

Newcastle’s Myles Cherry put up a game-high 24 points and Ryan Beisty added 19 points and 11 rebounds. This game’s outcome may be critical in deciding who comes out of the East in the national final.

Maitland Mustangs (98) def Norths Bears (66)

In another battle of possible East finals match-ups, the Mustangs have beaten the Norths Bears by 32 points in a classic Kayo Game of the Week clash.

Maitland’s James Hunter scored 20 points and seven rebounds with three other Mustangs scoring in double-digits. The Bears had a solid team effort with four players scoring eight points or more, Sydney Kings development player Ignatius Mitchell stood out most with his athleticism for the Bears.
