NBL1 NORTH – 2022 MEN'S SEASON
ROUND 7 – FRIDAY NIGHT

GOLD COAST ROLLERS 107 defeated ROCKHAMPTON ROCKETS 96

In the end the individual brilliance of Jason Cadee and Tanner Krebs helped to deliver the Gold Coast Rollers a hard earned 11-point home win against the Rockhampton Rockets on Friday night.

The Rollers were back on their home deck at Carrara Stadium to open Round 7 in the NBL1 North competition but they didn’t have things all their own way especially with the Rockets benefiting from the presence of the newly arrived Matthew McCarthy.

It was Rockhampton who started strongly with McCarthy proving quite the impactful big man at both ends of the floor. He helped the Rockets score 11 straight points to lead by as much as 12 during the first quarter.

Gold Coast warmed to the challenge, though, and had assumed a 48-45 lead by half-time before Jason Cadee hit three triples in the third quarter alone to help the Rollers extend their advantage to as much as 14 points.

From there, the Rollers ended up recording the 107-96 victory to a 6-1 record on the season to maintain their hold on top spot while the Cyclones are now 4-4 following the defeat.

It was quite the stunning all-round performance from 342-game NBL veteran Jason Cadee. He not only nailed 7/12 from three-point range and scored 32 points, but he delivered a triple-double also including 10 rebounds and 10 assists while playing all but nine seconds of the game.

Cadee's Brisbane Bullets teammate Tanner Krebs was also outstanding for the Rollers with 26 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals while young gun Preston Le Gassick added 18 points and three assists.

IPSWICH FORCE 80 defeated MACKAY METEORS 72

The Mackay Meteors couldn’t quite maintain their fast start on the road on Friday night with the stars of the Ipswich Force stepping up in the second half for the eventual eight-point victory.

Mackay arrived at JBS Stadium beginning their second three-game road trip weekend inside three weeks and the Meteors opened up the game against the Force strongly to break away after a tight first quarter.

The Meteors were able to open up a double-digit advantage during the second quarter and by the half-time break the visitors were leading 36-28.

Ipswich needed to respond but with the NBL experience of Majok Deng and Isaac White, and then the exciting attributes of Henry Pwono in their line-up, they were able to turn the momentum their way.

Pwono set the tone with a couple of energetic dunks and getting in the passing lanes to force some turnovers and to get out and run. The Force built on that to put up 31 points to 16 in the third quarter.

They were able to capitalise on that to end up winning 80-72 to improve to a 4-5 record on the season while the Meteors are now 6-3 with two more road games to come this weekend against the Red City Roar on Saturday and the South West Metro Pirates on Sunday.

Illawarra Hawks NBL guard Isaac White finished the evening with 24 points, nine rebounds, eight steals and four assists for Ipswich with Cairns Taipans star Majok Deng adding 18 points and 12 boards.

Things remained tight throughout the second half with no more than the final six-point margin ever separating the Phoenix and Caps.
