Brisbane Capitals 79 def USC Rip City 75
Brisbane Capitals forward Zachary Carter nailed the go-ahead three-point shot to help clinch a 79-75 win over USC Rip City at Auchenflower Stadium on Saturday night.
In a hotly contested game that saw neither side have a lead greater than six points, Carter (16 points, 8 rebounds) broke the 75-all deadlock with 27 seconds remaining.
Neither team shot well from beyond the arc, but Brisbane had a slight advantage including Carter’s third and most important three-pointer.
Ben Volkman scored a team-high 18 points, while Ben Wilson (16 points) and Nicholas Stoddart (12 points) also tallied double figures.
Rip City forward Eric McAlister scored a game-high 28 points and Tanner Krebs chipped in another 20 points for the visitors.
Cairns Marlins 88 def Sunshine Coast Phoenix 82
Cairns Marlins went on an 11-6 run down the stretch to outlast Sunshine Coast Phoenix at Early Settler Stadium on Saturday night.
A Mirko Djeric three-pointer gave the home side an 80-76 lead at the 2.21 mark to kickstart the run home. The Marlins guard scored 11 of his 25 points in the fourth quarter.
Marlins power forward Majok Deng (pictured) scored a game-high 34 points including 13 in the last quarter. The NBL Cairns Taipans duo combined for 24 of the home side’s 31 points in the fourth period.
Anthony Fisher was the main scoring threat for Cairns as he chimed in with 18 points.
The Phoenix were led by Jamaal Robateau (16 points) and Jarred Bairstow (16 points). Darnell Robateau (12 points), Nelson Kahler (12 points) and Oscar Cluff (12 points) also scored in double figures for the visitors.
South West Metro Pirates 109 def by Red City Roar 113
Red City Roar held off South West Metro Pirates to claim a 113-109 victory at Hibiscus Sports Stadium on Saturday night.
The Roar jumped out to a 12-point first quarter lead and extended that to a 17-point margin heading into the final quarter.
Pirates guard Brendan Teys scored 15 of his game-high 33 points in the final quarter but the fightback fell just short.
With plenty of offense on show, 12 players – seven Roar and five Pirates – scored in double figures.
Red City forward Atem Deng enjoyed extended minutes to score a team-high and his season best 17 points.
Roar guard William McDowell-White posted a near triple double with 14 points, nine rebounds and eight assists in 29 minutes of work.
Red City’s Kobe McDowell-White (15 points), Kian Dennis (14 points), Mikael Willie (12 points), and Darryl McDowell-White (10 points) also scored in double figures.
South West Metro’s Kai Woodfall (24 points including 6 of 13 from deep), Jakobe Hunter (12 points), Brandon Edwards (11 points), and Cameron Gordon (10 points) joined Teys in double figures for the home side.
Mackay Meteors 89 def by Logan Thunder 93
Logan Thunder fought back to claim a 93-89 victory the top-of-the-table clash against Mackay Meteors at Mackay Basketball Stadium on Saturday night.
The Thunder, down 73-69 heading into the final quarter, faced just their second loss of the season. Enter Logan guard Jeremy Kendle, who scored 13 of his team-high 24 points in the fourth quarter.
Kendle scored eight points in a 10-4 run that gave Logan back the lead (79-78) with 6.46 left in the game. He would also score the last bucket of the game to seal the win with 17 seconds remaining.
Logan’s Mitch Young (22 points), Shaun Bruce (20 points), Michael Cedar (11 points), and Obi Kyei (11 points, 12 rebounds including five on the offensive end) all kicked in for the Thunder offence.
Mackay was led by Emmanuel Malou with a game-high 28 points. He was joined by Jerron Jamerson (21 points) and Viliami Foketi (13 points) in double figures for the home side.
