Brisbane Capitals 87 def USC Rip City 76
Brisbane Capitals sits in sixth place after an 87-76 win over USC Rip City at Auchenflower Stadium on Saturday night.
The Capitals (7-5 win-loss record) were led by guard Brook Blair who hit a game-high 24 points with 5 of 8 made from deep.
Brisbane scored at 47.3% from the field with Blair (53.3%), Anna Cameron (16 points at 66.7%), Stephanie Collins (14 points at 58.3%), and Ya-Mei Liang (nine points at 66.7%) all in fine form.
Carlie Smith (19 points), Bree Delaney (17 points), and Alex Delaney (15 points) were Rip City’s main scoring threats but as a team they only managed to convert at 38.5%.
Cairns Dolphins 68 def by Sunshine Coast Phoenix 85
Sunshine Coast Phoenix pulled off the North Queensland double with an 85-68 win over Cairns Dolphins at Early Settler Stadium.
The Phoenix (8-4), who beat Townsville on Friday night, closed out the game and sealed the win with a 16-5 run.
Sunshine Coast spread the floor with guard Kathleen MacLeod (17 points), guard Amy Browne (16 points), forward Ashleigh Frampton (15 points), and centre Rachael Ryan (13 points) all in double figures.
Phoenix guard Rachael McCully also contributed with 12 assists and forward Jennifer Carden-David crashed the boards with 13 rebounds.
Leichan Williams registered a double double for the home side with 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Sarah Heard had a game-high 19 points.
South West Metro Pirates 93 def Red City Roar 54
South West Metro Pirates were too strong for Red City Roar in a 93-54 victory at Hibiscus Sports Stadium on Saturday night.
The Pirates jumped out to a 35-8 lead after the first quarter as Tylah King (pictured) scored 7 of her team-high 19 points and Steph Bairstow scored 9 of her 11 points in a red-hot start to the game.
Charmian Mellars registered a double double with 17 points and 12 rebounds, while Bree Farley (12 points), Amanda Johnson 12 points), and Isabelle Parker (11 points) made it six Pirates to score in double figures.
Roar’s Bride Kennedy-Hopoate scored a game-high 26 points and Carrie Mill added 10 points.
Mackay Meteorettes 47 def by Logan Thunder 92
Logan Thunder picked up back-to-back wins in Central Queensland with a 92-47 victory over Mackay Meteorettes at Mackay Basketball Stadium on Saturday night.
The Thunder (12-0), who beat Rockhampton on Friday night, took a 72-25 lead into the final quarter before they eased their foot off the accelerator.
Logan centre Mikaela Ruef scored a game-high 21 points and 16 rebounds in just three quarters of play.
The Thunder’s 10 rostered players all registered on the stat sheet with points and rebounds. Danielle Bayes (19 points), Indiah Bowyer (11 points), and Chevannah Paalvast (10 points) also scored in double figures.
Mackay, without Cayla George on national duties in Tokyo, looked to Jacqui Zelenka (10 points), Skye Rees (10 points), Sara Storeshaw (10 points), and Chelsea Brook (8 points) for their attack but the Meteorettes couldn’t keep up the pace with the Thunder.
