Mackay Meteors 98 def Cairns Marlins 79
Mackay Meteors picked up a key victory in the run to finals with a 98-79 win over Cairns Marlins at Mackay Basketball Stadium on Friday night.
Mackay’s Harry Froling dropped a season-high 40 points and picked up 10 boards for his seventh double double of the season. The Meteors centre (pictured) made 14 of 23 field goals including 9 of 15 from beyond the arc.
Meteors guard Jerron Jamerson added 29 points from an efficient 11 of 14 shooting including 3 of 5 from deep.
Mackay’s Froling, Jamerson and forward Emmanuel Malou (12 points) combined for 83% of the home side’s offence.
The Marlins offence, without their recent scoring machine Majok Deng, was led by guard Anthony Fisher (18 points), guard Deba George (15 points), and forward Alex Loughton (13 points).
The Meteors improved their record to 11-3 to sit in second place while the Marlins are in fifth place with a 7-5 record headed into a road game at Rockhampton on Sunday.
