Sunshine Coast Phoenix 71 def by Brisbane Capitals 78
The Brisbane Capitals won their third straight game to start the NBL1 North Men season with a 78-71 victory over Sunshine Coast Phoenix at Maroochydore Stadium on Friday night.
Tied 68 apiece, Capitals guard Jacob Wilson hit two of his 16 points, with a go-ahead basket from the elbow with 3.20 remaining. Brisbane then capitalised on being in the bonus with six free throws made down the stretch in the tightly contested game.
Brisbane guard Nicholas Stoddart top scored for the visitors with 26 points, hitting 8 of 16 from the field including two from five three-point attempts.
Capitals centre Ben Volkman tallied 11 points and six rebounds and forward Timothy Soong tallied 9 points and 6 rebounds.
The Phoenix ran their offence through guard Jamaal Robateau, who managed to get to the free throw line and make 13 of 16 attempts on his way to a game-high 27 points.
The Sunshine Coast bigs added a combined 28 points with Oscar Cluff (15 points, 8 rebounds) and Nelson Kahler (13 points, 8 rebounds) strong in the paint. Phoenix guard Darnell Robateau (pictured) added 8 points and 8 rebounds.
