Logan Thunder 82 def Townsville Heat 67

The undefeated Logan Thunder outlasted Townsville Heat to claim an 82-67 at the Bendigo Bank Cornubia Park Sports Complex on Friday night.

The Thunder closed out the first quarter on a 14-5 run to build a handy 23-11 at the first break. Heading into the final quarter, Logan maintained a double-digit lead (60-49) but it was all undone as the Heat surged back on a 13-2 run to level scores on 62 apiece with 5.04 left on the clock.

Logan’s Mitch Young (game-high 24 points), Blake Jones (17 points), and Boston Mazlin, who scored 11 of his 14 points down the stretch, led a 20-5 run to close the game out and seal the win for the Thunder.

Townsville’s Jalen Patton-Croker and Josh Spiers top scored for the visitors with 14 each.

Cairns Marlins 92 def Rockhampton Rockets 85

Cairns Marlins held off Rockhampton Rockets to record their third straight win with a 92-85 victory at Early Settler Stadium on Friday night.

Marlins guard Deba George scored a game-high 30 points and was backed up by Ky Stattmann (18 points) and James Mitchell (17 points, 12 rebounds 9 assists).

The Marlins, who led 75-62 heading into the final quarter, saw their lead dwindled down to just five points (90-85) with 48 seconds remaining. Mitchell sealed the win with two free throws at the 20-second mark as the Rockets ran out of time.

Rockhampton’s Najeal Young top scored with 29 points for the visitors, while Ben Wright (15 points, 10 rebounds), Leon Christensen (15 points), and Josh Wilcher (12 points) gave the Rockets multiple scoring options.
