Logan Thunder 76 def Townsville Flames 58

The league-leading Logan Thunder remain undefeated after a 76-58 win over Townsville Flames at the Bendigo Bank Cornubia Park Sports Complex on Friday night.

Thunder centre Mikaela Ruef continued her dominance in the paint with a game high 25points and 22 rebounds.

The Mikaela duo – Ruef and guard Mikaela Cann – combined for 42 points, accounting for 55% of the Thunder’s offence. Cann almost had a double-double of her own with 17 points and 8 assists.

Logan guard Carla Drennan (12 points) nailed 4 of 6 from beyond the arc to help the Thunder (10 of 24 three-pointers made) to an 18-point advantage over Townville (4 of 24) from deep.

Townsville guard Stephanie Reid top scored for the visitors with 22 points. The Flames return to action on Saturday night at Ipswich and back up on Sunday at the Gold Coast.

Cairns Dolphins 79 def Rockhampton Cyclones 76

Cairns Dolphins registered their first win of the NBL1 North season with a 79-76 victory over Rockhampton Cyclones at Early Settler Stadium on Friday night.

With the score tied at 75, Dolphins guard Andria Heard stole the ball and scored the go-ahead basket with an easy lay-up with 58 seconds left in the game.

Dolphins guard Myra Donkin tallied a triple-double with 23 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists, while Chelsea Oxlade (15 points) and Sarah Heard (15 points, 11 rebounds) also put up good numbers.

Rockhampton centre Lara McSpadden scored a game-high 26 points and 18 rebounds. She was joined by Katrina Clifford (16 points), Akaysha Muggeridge (16 points), and Tori Rouse (14 points) in double figures for the Cyclones.

The Cyclones return to action with a weekend trip to the Sunshine Coast, to face Rip City on Saturday night and Phoenix on Sunday.
