Former NBL player and NBL1 North star Koen Sapwell will return home to his junior club, the Central Districts Lion, for the 2024 NBL1 Central season.
After averaging 25.8 points per game, four assists and 3.8 rebounds for the Southern District Spartans last season, he ranked sixth in total points per game across the entire NBL1 men’s competition.
The 24-year-old has played two seasons in the NBL with the South East Melbourne Phoenix and Brisbane Bullets, playing a total of five games across two seasons.
He scored 30+ points in seven games last season, dropping 40 on two separate occasions against the Brisbane Capitals.
Head coach Rupert Sapwell said he is thrilled to have Koen back at his junior club.
“Koen returns from an outstanding season in the tough German ProA League and is a major signing for us,” he told the Lions.
“His NBL and international experience, scoring prowess and defensive tenacity will give the Lions a huge boost.”
He’ll join Apiok Dau and Magnus Richards on the Lions roster for 2024.
