The Keilor Thunder Women overcame a slow start to record a strong win against the Hobart Chargers to open Round 2 in the NBL1 South competition on Friday night.

The two teams opened up the Round 2 action for the 2022 season on Friday night at Kingborough Sports Centre. Despite the Chargers opening up an eight-point quarter-time lead, Keilor took over the rest of the way to end up winning 68-55.

Maddie Garrick and Monique Andriuolo put up 23 points apiece for Keilor with Sharna Thompson producing 24 points for Hobart.

Round 2 of the NBL1 South Women's competition continues on Saturday evening with the Geelong Supercats hosting the Ringwood Hawks and the Knox Raiders taking on the Waverley Falcons.

The Nunawading Spectres also play the Dandenong Rangers, the Ballarat Miners are at home to the Etham Wildcats, the Diamond Valley Eagles face the Sandringham Sabres and the Kilsyth Cobras battle the Casey Cavaliers.

The Launceston Tornadoes are also at home to the Keilor Thunder and the Mount Gambier Pioneers take on the Frankston Blues.

HOBART CHARGERS 55 lost to KEILOR THUNDER 68

The Hobart Chargers and Keilor Thunder both came into Friday night's opening match up to Round 2 of the NBL1 South season hunting a first win of the 2022 season.

The Chargers lost their opening game of the season last Saturday by 38 points to the Launceston Tornadoes with the Thunder also going down at home to the Bendigo Braves to start their NBL1 South Women's season for 2022.

They then came into Friday night's clash at Kingborough Sports Centre both hunting their first wins of the new season with the home team starting impressively with 22 points to 14 in the opening quarter.
 
With Maddie Garrick leading the charge, Keilor was able to pick up a bit of control in the second quarter with 21 points to 16 to end cutting Hobart's half-time lead to 38-35.

It was then all the Thunder after half-time with 18 points to seven in the third quarter, 15 to 10 in the fourth for the 68-55 victory.

Superstar Maddie Garrick was terrific in the win for Keilor with 23 points, seven rebounds, five steals and three assists while Monique Andriuolo added 23 points, 12 rebounds, four steals and two assists.

Aneta Bandilovska contributed six points and five rebounds as well for the Thunder, Hailey Wynd six points, six boards and four steals, and Chloe Hildebrand.

Sharna Thompson hit four triples on her way to 24 points and four rebounds for the Chargers with Angela Tompkins adding 17 points, 15 rebounds and three assists, and Zoe Banks seven points, five boards and four assists.
