Diamond Valley Eagles 78 def by Geelong Supercats 116
The Geelong Supercats have handed the Diamond Valley Eagles its fourth loss in its last five games on Sunday afternoon.
The Supercats got out to an ideal start, opening up a 10-point lead within five minutes before heading into quarter time up 31-18.
It was a similar story in the second term, as Geelong forced the home side into turnovers and capitalized on the extra opportunities.
George Blagojevic was dominant in his second game for the Supercats, tallying 30 points and 12 rebounds in 26 minutes, while Issac Turner poured in 26 points of his own.
Up by 31 points going into the third term, Geelong was able to go deep into its bench, with every Supercats player registering on the score-sheet in the 38-point win.
The win is Geelong’s seventh in its first nine games.
Waverley Falcons 108 def Eltham Wildcats 94
The Waverley Falcons have extended its winning streak to three games after winning at home against Eltham.
After leading for much of the first half, Waverley gave up the lead in the closing seconds of the second term to head into the main break trailing by one point.
The Wildcats looked to ride the momentum it had gathered in the second term as the game remained close across the third quarter.
Justin Aver and Adam Doyle both scored 20 for Eltham, while Benjamin Waldren tallied 18 points.
The Falcons however were able to weather the Wildcats’ attack, retaking the lead in the third term and never trailing for the remainder of the game.
Dexter Kernich-Drew showcased his shooting ability, scoring 38 points and hitting eight of his 10 attempts from beyond the arc.
Led by Kernich-Drew, Waverley pulled away in the final term, ultimately winning by 14 points.
The loss is the third in a row for Eltham.
Sandringham Sabres 83 def by Albury Wodonga Bandits 89
The Albury-Wodonga Bandits have won a thrilling contest against Sandringham to hand the Sabres its eighth loss in a row.
It was a close, hard fought game throughout, with Sandringham playing catchup for 39 of the 40 minutes.
Kuany Kuany was again spectacular for the Sabres, tallying 28 points and 17 rebounds, while new addition Preston Bungei scored 20 points and four blocks of his own.
Despite this, the Bandits held onto its lead in large part because of Mitchell Dance, who scored a season high 37 points.
It was however one of Dance’s teammates that would secure the win down the stretch.
Leading by three with less than 30 seconds remaining, Lochlan Hutchison (24 points, 11 rebounds) converted a three-point play to seal the victory for Albury-Wodonga.
The win is the Bandit’s second in a row and third of the season.
Melbourne Tigers 77 def by Ballarat Miners 92
The Ballarat Miners have leaned on rebounding and three point shooting to beat the Melbourne Tigers in Melbourne.
Searching for its first win since Round 2, Melbourne fought hard across the first three quarters, trading the lead back and forth with the Miners.
Felix von Hofe led the way for the home side, scoring 32 points while playing all 40 minutes.
Ultimately, Melbourne's lack of size was a major factor, as it has been for most of the season.
Ballarat out-rebounded the Tigers 48-28 and secured 21 offensive rebounds, which often resulted in three-point makes on the kick out.
Ballarat connected on 15 of its 42 three-point attempts, a far cry from its dismal shooting performance on Saturday evening.
On the back of this shooting, Ballarat pulled away in the final term, outscoring the Tigers 29-16 to run away with the 15-point win.
William Hickey led the way for the Miners, scoring 22 points, while Matt Kenyon added 18 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists.
