Hobart Chargers 75 def by Eltham Wildcats 88
The Hobart Chargers have gone down to the Eltham Wildcats in the first game of the NBL1’s Play4BCNA Round.
The Wildcats got out to a hot start, opening up a 12-point lead in the opening term on the back of some strong ball movement and work on the offensive glass.
The Chargers managed to close the gap to seven-points to close the quarter, before orchestrating a strong run in the second term which saw Hobart lead by as many as seven points.
Tayla Roberts led the way for the Chargers, scoring 24 points on efficient shooting (12-14) while filling the stat sheet elsewhere on the court, finishing with six assists and six rebounds.
Heading into the second half with a slim lead, Hobart did its best to hold off the aggressive attack from Eltham, however the Wildcats’ tenacity on the inside, paired with some sweet shooting from behind the arc, led Eltham back into the lead, which it would hold onto for the remainder of the game to secure victory.
Lily Scanlon again showed why she is one of the most exciting young players in the competition, scoring 25 points while connecting on four of her three-point attempts.
Rebecca Pizzey tallied 21 points of her own for Eltham, however perhaps the most impressive statistic from the evening came from Anneli Maley, who pulled down 29 rebounds.
Maley was relentless on the glass all evening, out-muscling anyone the Chargers put in her way.
