Leaders return and Magic win big over Giants

The Mandurah Magic welcomed back their captain, coach and legend on Sunday to bounce back with a 100-66 victory at home to the Goldfields Giants.

The Magic had a rough night on Friday away to the unbeaten Cockburn Cougars to end up losing by 21 points in a game where they arrived without coach Vlad Alava, captain Rachel Halleen and the league's games record holder Casey Mihovilovich.

Then throughout the evening, they lost Carly Boag to an apparent knee injury and even fill-in coach Craig Reynolds was ejected late on the back of a second tech foul.

The Magic were then back home on Sunday at Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre to host a Giants team buoyed by the presence of Darcee Garbin and trying to bounce back from last Saturday's loss at home also to the Cougars.

Mandurah was boosted by the return of coach Alava and with Mihovilovich and Halleen straight back into the starting line-up against the Giants even though they were without Boag.

Mandurah did start well to lead by six points at quarter-time before the Magic turned it on in the second stanza with 30 points to 18 to see the home side leading 49-31 by the half-time break.

Mandurah added another 30 points to 13 in the third term which saw the lead blow out to 37 points, it got to 38 in the fourth and the Magic would end up winning by 34 on their home court.

The victory improves the Magic to a 10-4 record on the season with the top four battle remaining a fascinating one. The Giants slipped to 3-10 with their only appearance of the weekend.

Kat Tudor turned it on for the Magic in the big win with 29 points, 10 rebounds and four assists on the back of knocking down 5/10 of her three-point attempts.

Sarah Toeaina also added 26 points, three rebounds, three assists and three blocked shots on 10/12 shooting with Hannah Hank producing 13 points, 11 boards, four assists and two steals, and Casey Mihovilovich 11 points, eight rebounds, six assists and four steals.

Darcee Garbin delivered 20 points, 12 rebounds and three assists for Goldfields on a floor she had so many fascinating battles against the Magic with when she was playing at the Rockingham Flames.

Regan Turnour-McCarty finished with 17 points and six rebounds for the Giants, Ash Sidebottom 10 points and two rebounds, and Kiriana Hawaikirangi eight points, five boards and four assists.

Bobbitt fires Magic to win over Giants

CJ Bobbitt produced the best performance of his NBL1 West career to inspire the Mandurah Magic to their second win of the season, beating the Goldfields Giants 120-106 on Sunday.

Both teams arrived at Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre attempting to bounce back from losses earlier in Round 11 with the Magic losing to the Cockburn Cougars on Friday, and the Giants going down to the South West Slammers to start the road double on Saturday.

Mandurah was hunting a second win of the season and Goldfields just needed a win to stay in touch with the top eight setting the stage for the last match of Round 11.

Goldfields put together an outstanding opening quarter as well to go into quarter-time leading 33-25, but the Giants couldn’t maintain that pace away from home.

The Magic put together 33 points to 26 in the second stanza to go into the half-time interval narrowly leading 59-58 in an entertaining affair.

Mandurah took charge further throughout the second half including scoring 10 straight points in the third quarter to open up a nine-point lead.
