ROUND 11 – SUNDAY

WARWICK SENATORS 100 defeated KALAMUNDA EASTERN SUNS 74
The Warwick Senators were playing their only game of the weekend on Sunday looking to keep their winning form going up against a Kalamunda Eastern Suns team determined to snap their own losing slide.

While the Senators men took on the Willetton Tigers on Saturday night, the only game for their women's team in Round 11 of the NBL1 West competition was at Warwick Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Warwick came into the game on the back of a four-game winning streak having only won two of their opening five matches this season so the Senators were keen to continue that good form on their home floor.

Kalamunda, though, wasn’t lacking in its own motivation to bounce back from losing the previous evening to the Rockingham Flames by 22 points which meant the Eastern Suns came to Warwick Stadium on a three-game losing skid.

The Senators started the game strongly on their home court with 24 points to 16 in the opening quarter to be leading by eight at quarter-time. Another 29 points to 24 in the second term and they went into half-time leading the Eastern Suns 53-40.

The Suns weren’t going away, though, and they made a game of it by outscoring the Senators in the third quarter and only trailing by nine points at three quarter-time.

The Senators were able to respond to that challenge, though, and deliver a dominant fourth quarter with 31 points to 14 to end up claiming the 100-74 victory on their home floor.

The win means that Warwick has now won five games in-a-row to hold a 7-3 record while the two Round 11 losses leaves Kalamunda at 2-7 on a four-game losing run.

The MVP from 2019 Stacey Barr was the difference ultimately between the two teams finishing with 37 points, 16 rebounds, eight assists and two steals. She shot 13/29 from the floor, 4/14 from three-point range and 7/7 from the foul line.

She received plenty of support in the 26-point win too with Mackenzie Clinch-Hoycard putting up 17 points, four rebounds and three assists, Caitlyn Jones 13 points, five boards and five assists, and Tayla Hepburn 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Jewel Williams got rolling for the Eastern Suns to knockdown 5/9 from the three-point line to finish with 20 points while Mia Jacobs added 14 points and three assists.

Ellyce Ironmonger also finished with 12 points, five rebounds and two steals for Kalamunda, Rebecca Motroni 11 points and two assists, and Courtney Mansfield five points, four rebounds and two assists.
