We are thrilled to announce the return of Craig Mansfield as the Head Coach of the Lakeside Lightning NBL1 Women's team!
Craig is no stranger to Lakeside. His coaching journey with the Lightning began over two decades ago, as the inaugural women's coach in 2001-2002. He also led the U16 WABL team to back-to-back State Championship appearances, including a title win in 2002. He then took the reins of the women's program in 2016, guiding the team through four consecutive playoff seasons, including a 2018 Championship and earning Coach of the Year honours. Having now coached over 450 SBL and NBL1 games, including 155 games for Lightning, Craig was this year named as the Women's Head Coach of the Lightning's 30-Year Anniversary Team.
Most recently, Craig served as the NBL1 Women's Head Coach at Perry Lakes Hawks for the past four years, further solidifying his reputation as a leader in elite women's basketball. His coaching resume spans across the SBL/NBL1, WA State Teams, and even a stint in the WNBL, bringing a wealth of experience, leadership, and a deep understanding of player development. His previous tenure at Lakeside was marked not only by success on the court but also by his commitment to building a strong, values-driven culture.
We're also proud to celebrate the return of a familiar face off the court, Courtney Mansfield (nee Byrnes). Courtney is a former Lakeside Lightning captain, known for her tenacity, leadership and scoring prowess. She was twice named Player of the Week, playing over 250 games for the Lightning, and is a Lightning Life Member. Courtney and Craig were married during his previous coaching stint, making their connection to Lakeside truly special.
Together, Craig and Courtney bring a legacy of excellence, passion, and community spirit that closely aligns perfectly with Lakeside Lightning's mission.
Please join us in welcoming Craig & Courtney, along with their son, Kasey, back to the Lakeside family.
We're excited for the journey ahead.
