Nicola and Kayla Mathews return to Sturt

The Sturt Sabres have announced sisters Nicola and Kayla Mathews will join the NBL1 Central team this season.

After having played all her Juniors at Sturt, Nicola spent four years within the USA college system, where she played her final three years with the App State women's basketball team.

"We are very happy to have Nicola back at the club where she started and played her entire junior career,” coach John Turnbull said.

“Along with her cool and calm demeanour, Nicola's ability to set up our offense and run the court for us will be invaluable. We all look forward to coaching her once again."

Kayla has played for the Sabres senior team since 2016 and is a key piece to their rotation.

“It’s great to have Kayla re-sign with us, she has been an important piece of our team and system for a number of years now,” Turnbull said.

“We are very happy to have her back. I look forward to coaching her again this season.”
