There were Saturday NBL1 North wins for Townsville, Sunshine Coast and Southern Districts women, South West Metro, Brisbane and Gold Coast men, and both Logan and Rockhampton teams.

Gold Coast Rollers (73) lost to Townsville Flames (81)

The Townsville Flames made up for their loss to start their double-header weekend with the 81-73 win against the Gold Coast Rollers who fell to a 17th consecutive defeat.

The Flames arrived at Carrara Indoor Sports Stadium looking to rebound from the 21-point Friday night loss to the South West Metro Pirates to start their double-header weekend on the road.

Gold Coast came into the match up having lost all eight games so far in 2025 under the coaching of Australian basketball legend Mark Bradtke on the back of also losing the last eight matches of 2024.

It was Townsville who made the strong start with 28 points to 15 in the first quarter on the back of knocking down 4/9 from three-point territory.

The lead for the Flames got out to 16 points in the second term and by half-time they were in control leading 46-32.

Gold Coast did keep things competitive through the second half and outscored Townsville 41 points to 35, but the Rollers couldn’t quite get close enough to strike with Townsville holding firm for the eight-point victory.

The victory sees the Flames split their double on the road this weekend to now sit on a 5-6 record and remain inside a playoff position by the end of Round 9.

Sam Bowman produced another 20 points and 10 rebounds in the win for Townsville while Chailee Ward delivered 187 points, 11 boards and five assists with 4/12 three-point shooting.

Mia Murray added 12 points, three rebounds and two assists, Tayla Dalton 10 points, four boards and three assists, and Jasmine Rigoni nine points, five assists, three rebounds and two steals.

Gold Coast have now lost 17 straight matches to be 0-9 on the season with Juna Umezawa top-scoring with 26 points, five rebounds, four assists and two blocked shots with 9/9 free-throw shooting.

Tera Reed added 14 points, four assists and three rebounds, Nyah Morris 11 points and eight boards, Emma Petrie 10 points and 10 rebounds, and Tara Manumaleuga seven points and eight assists.

GOLD COAST ROLLERS 73 (Umezawa 26, Reed 14, Morris 11)

TOWNSVILLE FLAMES 81 (Bowman 20, Ward 18, Murray 12)

Southern Districts Spartans (67) defeated South West Metro Pirates (62)

Beyonce Bea delivered another spectacular performance for the South West Metro Pirates but this time it wasn’t quite enough with the Southern Districts Spartans dominating the fourth quarter for the 67-62 win.

The Pirates arrived at Rowland Cowan Stadium having started their double-header weekend beating the Townsville Flames at home on Friday night with the Spartans playing a first game since beating the Mackay Meteorettes also at home last Saturday.

The Spartans were looking to maintain their hold on top spot as well in the NBL1 North but it was South West Metro continuing their momentum from the night before with 18 points to 14 in the opening term.

The Pirates turned that into a 12-point lead in the second period as well before still maintaining a 38-31 advantage.

South West then extended that lead to eight at three quarter-time but the game underwent a complete transformation in the last 10 minutes.

Southern Districts delivered 17 points in the fourth quarter on 7/22 shooting while limiting the Pirates to just the four points in the entre term with 2/14 shooting from the floor.

That saw the Spartans turn an eight-point deficit at three quarter-time into the five-point win that sees them improve to a 9-1 record to remain in top spot.

Nicole Fransson top-scored once more for Southern Districts with 15 points, 11 rebounds, three blocks and two steals while Jess McDowell-White added 14 points, 11 assists and seven boards, and Hayley McDowell-White 12 points and three rebounds.

Emily Preston also contributed eight points, nine rebounds and three steals.

The Pirates end their double-header weekend with a win and a loss to now be 3-7 on the season despite another standout display from Beyonce Bea with 27 points, 11 rebounds and two steals on 12/16 shooting.

Steph Bairstow added 19 points, 10 rebound and three assists on 3/5 three-point shooting, and Grace Champion seven points, eight boards and five assists.

Rockhampton Cyclones (81) defeated Ipswich Force (79)

The Ipswich Force did score the last 10 points of the game to almost pull off a spectacular comeback victory but it was the Rockhampton Cyclones holding on for the 81-79 victory.

Both teams came into the match up sitting on the outside of the top six in the NBL1 North with Rockhampton trying to back up their last up win over the Sunshine Coast Phoenix.

Ipswich arrived at Bravus Arena having started their road double with a 22-point loss at the hands of the Mackay Meteorettes on Friday and they were trying to avoid a third consecutive defeat.

The defending champion Cyclones did make a strong start with 22 points to 16 in the first quarter but just as they got back out to an 11-point lead in the second period, Ipswich fired back.

The Cyclones' lead was just 40-39 by the half-time break but Rockhampton pulled away once more with 28 points to 18 in the third frame and then they maintained advantage to lead by 12 when Anna Bassett sored with three minutes to play.

The last 10 points of the game scored all went the way of Ipswich including a three-point bomb with 30 seconds to go to send a shock into the Cyclones, but there would be no more score after that and the defending champions held on for the two-point win.

The victory improves Rockhampton to a 5-5 record on the season with consecutive wins with Chelsey Perry delivering 27 points, 12 rebounds and two assists while knocking down 4/5 from three-point range.

Akaysha Muggeridge also delivered 15 points, six rebounds and two assists, Moira Joiner 14 points, nine assists and six boards, and Mary Goulding 13 points, 11 rebounds and two assists.

Ipswich return home without a win this weekend to now sit with a 3-7 record with Kahlaijah Dean delivering 22 points, nine assists and six rebounds.

Elissa Brett added 19 points, 12 rebounds and two steals, Kate Head nine points, six boards and three assists, Hannah Young eight points, six rebounds and four assists, and Olivia West eight points, three boards and two assists.

ROCKHAMPTON CYCLONES 81 (Perry 27, A Muggeridge 15, Joiner 14)

IPSWICH FORCE 79 (Dean 22, Brett 19, Head 9)

Northside Wizards (82) lost to Logan Thunder (100)

Courtney Woods was back for the Northside Wizards but it wasn’t quite enough with Amandine Toi and Leah Scott combining for 61 points as Logan Thunder scored the 100-82 victory.

The Wizards were back home at Northside Indoor Sports Centre looking to snap a four-game losing streak which has coincided with the absence of Woods.

She was back in the Northside line-up on Saturday against a Logan team on a seven-match winning run.

Logan did start strongly to open up an early 10-point lead but Northside responded well and by quarter-time the scores were all square at 25-25.

The Thunder did grab the momentum once more in the second term going on a 14-0 scoring run to open up a 17-point lead, but again the Wizards responded and limited the Logan lead to 51-45 by half-time.

That lead for Logan was then only eight at three quarter-time, but they did finally pull away for good in the last term with 26 points to 16 on the way to the 18-point victory.

The win improves the Thunder to an 8-1 record with eight straight wins with Amandine Toi delivering 33 points, four rebounds and three steals with 12/20 field goal shooting.

Leah Scott finished with 28 points, 15 rebounds, four assists and two steals, Mikhaela Cann 18 points, 13 assists and five boards, and Sharni Reisinger eight points and three rebounds.

The Wizards have now lost their past five matches to be in unfamiliar territory with a 3-8 record having played in the last two grand final series in the NBL1 North.

Courtney Woods was playing her first game in just over a month and finished with 22 points, five rebounds and five assists.

Cierra Walker added 15 points and five assists, Alice O'Driscoll 13 points, six rebounds and two steals, and Courtney Virgo nine points, four boards and two steals.

LOGAN THUNDER 100 (Toi 33, Scott 28, Cann 18)

Brisbane Capitals (78) lost to Sunshine Coast Phoenix (83)

Erin Bollmann produced a standout performance at both ends of the floor on the way to the 83-78 vicotry away to the Brisbane Capitals who continue to struggle without Miela Sowah.

The Capitals were back on their home floor at Auchenflower Stadium and they tried to find a way to win without the recently signed Townsville Fire WNBL star Sowah who is with the Australian Gangurrus at the 3x3 World Cup in Mongolia.

They were playing host to a Phoenix team still clinging to a place in the top six despite a last up loss to the Rockhampton Cyclones last Friday night.

It was a strong start away from home by Sunshine Coast with 23 points to 16 in the first quarter before they opened up a 12-point lead in the second term, and went into the half-time break still leading 41-36.

It was another 22 points to 15 from Sunshine Coast in the third quarter and then the lead got out to as much as 16 points in the fourth quarter before Brisbane threw everything at a big comeback with an 8-0 scoring run.

The closest the Caps got the game back to, though, was the final five-point winning margin for the Phoenix who improve to 6-4 on the season as a result.

Erin Bollman was tremendous defensively and then also ended up with impressive numbers with 27 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists, six steals and two blocks.

Shannon Ryan added 20 points, 10 rebounds and two assists, Jessica Boundy 18 points, three assists and two boards, and Kayla Mathews eight points, six rebounds and six assists.

Brisbane have now lost their past two to sit at 3-6 on the season with Ashley Arlen continuing her terrific form with 25 points, 12 rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocked shots.

Grace Ellis also delivered 21 points, five rebounds and two steals, Keriana Hippolite 21 points, four assists and three boards, and Tyla Stolberg three points and five rebounds.

Gold Coast Rollers (90) defeated Townsville Heat (76)

Jensen Bradtke is about to follow his father's footsteps at the Brisbane Bullets and he led the Gold Coast Rollers to the 90-76 home win on Saturday night against the Townsville Heat.

The Rollers were back home at Carrara Indoor Sports Stadium looking to make it consecutive wins to maintain a spot in the top six in the NBL1 North as they played host to a Townsville team coming off a Friday night loss to the South West Metro Pirates.

It was a tight battle throughout the first quarter with the two teams locked at 26-26 by quarter-time before Gold Coast managed to open up an eight-point lead by going on a 10-0 run in the second frame.

But Townsville hit back and the Rollers were still narrowly leading 46-43 by half-time and then by three quarter-time Gold Coast were only holding on to a two-point advantage.

Then in the final term, it was all the Rollers with 26 points to 14 on the way to leading by as much as 17 and scoring the 14-point victory to make it back-to-back wins to improve to a 5-4 record.

Jensen Bradtke is a young big man on the rise following on from the career of his father, Mark, as one of Australia's greatest ever basketballers. He finished with 20 points, 11 rebounds, two assists and two blocks with 3/4 three-point shooting.

Reuben Te Rangi also had 18 points and six rebounds, Preston Le Gassick 17 points, 10 assists and four boards, and Boston Mazlin 16 points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals.

Townsville go home without a win from the road double this weekend to now be 4-7 on the season with Kuany Kuany producing 20 points, nine rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Ethan Betts added 16 points, eight assists, five rebounds and three steals, Grant Teichmann 15 points, six assists and three boards, and Matthew Rees 14 points, six rebounds and three assists.

GOLD COAST ROLLERS 90 (Bradtke 20, Te Rangi 18, Le Gassick 17)

TOWNSVILLE HEAT 76 (Kuany 20, Betts 16, Teichmann 15)

Southern Districts Spartans (72) lost to South West Metro Pirates (88)

The South West Metro Pirates made it the perfect weekend backing up the Friday night win by downing the Southern Districts Spartans 88-72.

The Pirates opened their weekend with a 10-point win at home on Friday night against the Townsville Heat while the Spartans were hunting a third successive win even without the services of Kyle Adnam who was with the NBL Select team in Japan.

South West Metro got to the foul line 10 times in the opening quarter to help them to the 20-18 lead by quarter-time but Southern Districts were able to respond and open up their own six-point edge during the second frame.

The Pirates worked back on top with a 10-0 run of their own and that meant they were leading 43-35 by the half-time interval.

That lead for South West Metro got out to 11 points in the third quarter and 21 in the fourth before they secured the 16-point victory to make it two for two from the weekend.

The Pirates improve to 4-6 on the season as a result of the pair of wins with Junior Madut producing 20 points and six rebounds with 8/16 shooting.

Kai Woodfall also had 18 points with 4/6 three-point shooting while Dragan Stajic contributed 11 points, seven assists, six rebounds and two steals, Jarred Bairstow 11 points, four boards and three steals, Lachlan Anderson 11 points, three rebounds and two assists, and Ben Volkman 10 points, seven boards and five assists.

Southern Districts are now 4-6 on the season as well following the defeat on their home floor with Tamuri Wigness finishing with 26 points, five rebounds and three assists on 12/24 field goal shooting.

Blake Jones added 15 points, 10 rebounds and two assists, Nandor Kuti 11 points and two boards, and Andre Ugrinic six points and three rebounds.

Rockhampton Rockets (103) defeated Ipswich Force (87)

Malcolm Bernard delivered another 31 points and the Rockhampton Rockets snapped their losing run with the 103-87 win at home to the Ipswich Force.

Ipswich started their road double this weekend with a 12-point win on Friday night against the Mackay Meteors ahead of backing up on Saturday against a Rockets team having lost their past three matches when they met at Bravus Arena.

Both teams are attempting to break into the top four in the NBL1 North now that we're into the second half of the condensed season so the stakes were high for the match up.

Rockhampton came out on fire with 37 points to 22 in the opening quarter to already have that 15-point lead by quarter-time on the back of shooting 15/20 from the floor with 5/6 from downtown to the 9/16 from the Force.

That lead for the Rockets got out to 22 points in the second quarter too and by half-time the home team was in control with the 60-38 advantage.

Rockhampton maintained that lead throughout the second half too on the way to the 16-point victory which sees them improve to a 4-6 record having snapped a three-game losing run.

Malcolm Bernard was just one rebound short of what would have been a spectacular triple-double, but he still delivered a match winning performance made up of 31 points, 12 assists, nine rebounds and four assists with 6/8 three-point shooting.

Isaac Ayoubi added 17 points and seven assists, Jalen Graham 16 points and three boards, Malok Majak 15 points and 11 rebounds, and Harrison Hornery nine points five boards and four assists.

Ipswich returns home having split their two games this weekend to sit with a 5-5 record with Lamar Patterson continuing his standout form with another 26 points, seven assists, three rebounds and two steals.

Will Mahoney added 21 points, five rebounds and three steals, Kane Bishop 18 points and seven boards, Jason Ralph nine points and five assists, and Ngor Nai nine points, 10 rebounds and two blocks.

ROCKHAMPTON ROCKETS 103 (Bernard 31, Ayoubi 17, Graham 16)

IPSWICH FORCE 87 (Patterson 26, Mahoney 21, Bishop 18)

Northside Wizards (84) lost to Logan Thunder (93)

Logan Thunder completed the deal on a fourth straight victory beating the Northside Wizards 93-84 with Callum Dalton and Zac Triplett combining for 46 points.

The Wizards came into the clash at Northside Indoor Sports Centre having won their past two games ahead of hosting a Logan team on a three-game winning run with both teams occupying positions inside the top six.

It was a flying start from Logan with 32 points to 21 in the first quarter on the back of shooting 11/17 from the field opposed to the 7/17 from the Wizards.

Logan were able to extend that lead out to 16 points in the second term and were still on top 51-41 at the half-time interval.

The Thunder were still leading by seven points at three quarter-time and then completed the deal in the final period for the nine-point victory on the back of a hot shooting performance going 52 per cent from the field opposed to the 38 per cent from Northside.

Logan have now won four straight as a result of the win to improve to a 5-4 record with Callum Dalton delivering 26 points, 14 rebounds and two assists.

Zac Triplett also had 20 points and four assists, Tane Kirisome 14 points, four rebounds and two assists, and Matt Kenyon 13 points, 10 boards and three assists.

Northside are now 6-5 on the season following the defeat with Tyler Williams producing 32 points, five assists, four steals and three rebounds.

Durrell McDonald added 19 points, nine rebounds, six assists and two steals, Nikau McCullough nine points and two boards, Emerson Juhasz nine points, and Jed Richardson seven points, 11 rebounds and two blocked shots.

Brisbane Capitals (114) defeated Sunshine Coast Phoenix (79)

The Brisbane Capitals still put up 114 points in the 35-point win at home over the Sunshine Coast Phoenix despite the league's reigning NBL1 North MVP being away in Japan.

The Capitals were fresh off a loss lost week to the Mackay Meteors and they remained home at Auchenflower Stadium this Saturday night to host a Sunshine Coast team in top spot with a four-game winning run.

So it was the battle of the top two teams in the NBL1 North heading into Round 9 with Brisbane without Sam McDaniel who is with the NBL Select team in Japan this weekend.

The Capitals started strongly to open up a 10-point lead before still being on top 20-15 by the end of the opening stanza.

It was then 34 points to 20 in the second term from Brisbane on the back of shooting 15/19 from the field including 4/5 from downtown as they went into the half-time break leading 54-35.

It was another 31 points to 21 in the third quarter with another 13/22 shooting performance for those 10 minutes ahead of leading by as much 29 points.

That lead grew to 35 points in the fourth term for the Capitals as well and that would be the final winning margin as they replaced Sunshine Coast in top spot at 7-2 as a result.

In the absence of Sam McDaniel, another player with NBL experience Isaih Tueta came up huge with 32 points, 11 assists, five rebounds and two steals with 8/11 three-point shooting.

Uche Dibiamaka added 23 points, six rebounds and two assists, Dhieu Magier 12 points and three steals, Matthew Johns 11 points, eight assists and three boards, and Cooper Rowlings 11 points and five rebounds.

Sunshine Coast slip out of first place and to a 6-3 record as a result of the 35-point defeat with DeShawn Ross-Paiwan top-scoring with 21 points and four rebounds.

Earnest Ross added 20 points and four rebounds, Nelson Kahler 14 points, 10 boards, three assists and two blocks, and Elias Cato six points and four rebounds.
