The Norths Bears have announced the signing of outstanding point guard, Marquis Navarre to its Coles Express NBL1 2022 Men’s team.
Navarre is from Oceanside, California, and has been playing basketball since the age of five.
He is a former NCAA Division 1 starting point guard from Montana State University and has played professionally in China, Australia and Malaysia.
Navarre has matched up against some of the NBA’s best players, including Damian Lillard, Klay Thompson, and Russell Westbrook.
"I didn’t have a paternal role model to look up to, so I often turned to my basketball coaches to help shape me into the man and player I am today," Navarre said.
"They taught me to hone in on skills such as resilience, hard work, and determination to reach my goals."
Navarre believes pairing natural passion and drive, with the correct structure and guidance, is what enables individuals to be successful in life.
He takes this attitude with him every time he takes the court.
As a result of great coaching, Navarre has been able to use the game of basketball as a platform to travel the world and gain invaluable life experience.
He believes basketball provides a source of inner strength, a structure to build confidence, critical social skills, and a true appreciation of the value of hard work.
He brings more strength to an already-strong and experienced leadership group, as well as the values that go to make a championship team.
Naturally, his favourite sports star is Kobe Bryant, and he brings the "Mamba Mentality" to his own game and every team he plays in.
Morths’ Men’s Head Coach, Matt Johnston said: "Marquis will be strong leader in the key point guard role, guiding his teammates around the court and setting up for the team to score every trip down the court.
"He will also bring determined defence on the opposition’s playmakers, which will be key to the team’s success throughout the season."
Navarre will be in action in Norths' first home game, on Sunday April 3.
