Opal returns home to Goldfields Giants

The NBL1 West Goldfields Giants have signed Australian Opal Darcee Garbin for the remainder of the 2023 NBL1 season. 

The Kalgoorlie local is coming off her second season in Europe, for DVTK-HUN-Therm Miskolc in the Hungarian A Division league which concluded in April 

A key piece to the Opals' bronze medal at the 2022 FIBA Women's World Cup, Garbin makes the move from the NBL1 South Frankston Blues to the Giants. 

Garbin averaged 23.3 points. 10.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists for the Blues last season. 

Garbin's signing with her hometown club earlier this week coincided with the Basketball Australia announcement this week that she was named in the extended Australian Opals squad for the upcoming FIBA Women's Asia Cup later this year.

Club officials are hoping to have Darcee cleared to play this week as they look to take on the Perry Lakes Hawks in Kalgoorlie this Saturday night.
