The Southern Districts Spartans have welcomed back major contributor and competitor, WNBL star, Nadeen Payne for the 2022 Coles Express NBL1 North season.
An integral part of the 2021 Spartans line-up, leading the team in points, rebounds and blocks, securing Payne’s return was a priority for incoming coach, Dwight Hicks.
"Nadeen’s experience, control and leadership made her an essential piece to this puzzle," Hicks said.
"She is one of the most reliable players in the league, and I’m excited knowing we’ll see her suit up again for the Carina Leagues Club Lady Spartans in 2022.
"Our style of game aligns perfectly with Nadeen’s skillset and I’ll be looking for her to take a leading role in the side."
After falling agonisingly short of an NBL1 championship in 2021, Payne is determined to make up for last year’s grand finals’ result.
"I wanted to be back in Spartans colours this season," Payne said.
"We have some unfinished business and last year’s result left a bad taste in my mouth.
"I’m really looking forward to teaming up with Dwight again.
"I love his play and communication style; he will absolutely know how to get the best out of us."
A league veteran at just 28 years of age, Payne was a leading contributor to the Lady Spartans in 2021 averaging 18 points and 7 rebounds per game, as well as shooting at 55 percent from the field and 78 percent from the free-throw line.
