Round 3 of the Mitsubishi Motors NBL1 Central saw another bunch of young stars shine out, long term winning streaks break and life above the rim were the posts of the night.

Eagles fly into Cage, fend off Tigers
A highly emotional night at the home of the Southern Tigers saw the Forestville Eagles swoop in and take a convincing win 53-69. Rachel King backed up her previous week's effort with another double double of 18 points and 11 rebounds while Maddy Freer produced another solid set of figures with 12 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and three steals. Veteran Tiger Mollie McKendrick grabbed her own double double with 16 points and 12 rebounds with import Regan Schenck leading all Tigers with 21 points, eight rebounds and five assists.

Lions record start continues thanks to Samuels
The record start for the Central District Lions Women continued now 3-0 for the first time in over a decade thanks to another spirited showing from Casey Samuels as they pounced on the West Adelaide Bearcats 62-95 at the Bearcat Cave. Samuels notched the first triple double of the season with 20 points, 11 assists and rebounds and was everywhere…
Jasmin Fejo contributed another strong 20 points, 10 rebounds (six offensive), six assists and four steals while completing the big three was Tayla Levy with 21 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals. Import Lily Ritz also wrapped up 19 points in the historic win.
It was another impressive showing from young Bearcat Sienna Grieger who continues to step up to the top level with 23 points for the U20 Nationals star.

The Eastern Mavericks despite a youthful team have been ultra competitive and got their rewards tonight as they defeated the Woodville Warriors 66-88 at the Castle. Although it wasn’t quite the start they wanted as Ida Andersson (14 points and three assists) gave the Warriors a real early lead at the start…

From there on Airlie Ramsey and import Jocelyn Taylor gave them the lead and they never looked back. Ramsey notched 19 points, eight assists and six rebounds while Taylor after ten first quarter points finished with 18 points, six rebounds and three assists.
A 14 year old debutant stole the show as Daisy Hocking in the absence of sister Penzy rolled off 16 points, seven rebounds and three steals predominantly in the second as she tore the Warriors apart.
Annaliese Watkinson tried to engineer the fightback late finishing with 20 points with four triples - but the Mavericks would not be denied, capping a memorable night.

South Kubank three wins to open season
The South Adelaide Panthers remain undefeated as in the Kayo Freebies game of the week they took out the North Adelaide Rockets 104-82 at the Jungle of Mitchell Park. Recruit Tom Kubank stamped his authority early on this contest with 33 points including 23 points in the first half to go alongside 10 points and fours assists. Adelaide 36er Alex Starling although quiet in impact still clocked 22 points, 14 rebounds, five steals and four assists and two blocks.
It wasn’t all bad for the Rockets though with Steve Parfitt grabbing a double double of 10 points and rebounds and this huge finish at the rim courtesy of Jaxon Sangster.

Ultimately the Panthers held the margin at ease, running away to undefeated start to the season.

Bearcats get home with Gak
The Central Districts led from start to finish but in another tight finish for the Lions they were caught in the final seconds as new West Adelaide Bearcats recruit Akoldah Gak made this to steal the win off the Lions 83-82.

The Cairns Taipans big collected 21 points with 60 percent from the field and 12 rebounds and was backed up by sharp shooting Jordan Heading with 26 points, seven assists and five rebounds to give the 2023 Champions their first win of the season.
Lions import Magnus Richards put in his best game of the season with 25 points, nine rebounds, six assists and three blocks in an impressive performance with fellow import Branden Jenkins grabbing another 24 points and four rebounds to lead the Lions for the majority of the night - five seconds however was all it took for the win to slip away.

Mavs break five year drought to stomp on Warriors
It has been a seven game winning streak to the Woodville Warriors over the Eastern Mavericks since 2019 - tonight that was stomped on as the Mavs came away with another electrifying victory 89-85 at the Castle.
Thorn in the side of Mavs for multiple years was former player Devon McGee as he monstered his way to another 21 points and 11 rebounds helping the Warriors to an early lead.
The Mavs however seized control with Moses Nuangki (13 points) and Melvin Newburn with 17 points, 13 rebounds, three assists and steals. An intriguing battle took place between Freddy Webb and Sharif Black as the Footlocker POG from Round 1 was shut down in the first half.
However after half time Black began to escape Webb’s clutches as he started to heat up with 15 in the second half including this ridiculous finish on three quarter time.

Lachlan Hunter however with 18 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and four blocks sealed the historic win with a couple of free throws late in the piece.
