Anneli Maley and Natalie Chou dominated as the Perth Redbacks won in the NBL1 West while the Rockingham Flames men responded thanks to Gorjok Gak with Sam Ashby shining for the Perry Lakes Hawks and Jonathan Wade for the Joondalup Wolves.

Anneli Maley and Natalie Chou dominated as the Perth Redbacks won in the NBL1 West while the Rockingham Flames men responded thanks to Gorjok Gak with Sam Ashby shining for the Perry Lakes Hawks and Jonathan Wade for the Joondalup Wolves.

The two Friday night women's matches in the NBL1 West saw the Perth Redbacks beat the Rockingham Flames 99-86 and the Perry Lakes Hawks defeat the Joondalup Wolves 76-65.

The men's fixtures then saw the Flames defeat the Redbacks 90-87 and the Wolfpack down the Hawks 97-89.

Perth Redbacks (99) defeated Rockingham Flames (86)

The Rockingham Flames hadn’t lost a game this time last week, but now they have two defeats inside six days with Anneli Maley and Natalie Chou dominant as the Perth Redbacks prevailed 99-86.

The Flames arrived at Belmont Oasis attempting to bounce back from their first loss of the season at the hands of the Lakeside Lightning last Saturday night, but they were going to have to do it without Alex Sharp, Robbi Ryan and Sophie Doran.

There was also the added intrigue of former Redbacks captain Jess Jakens returning to her old home floor in a Flames singlet while Nes'eya Parker-Williams was also back playing against the team she started her career with.

The Redbacks were also without head coach Tim Rendulic with Corry Easther taking over for the night and then the home team lost Shenae Hartree to injury early in the piece.

Both teams were coming into the game off thrilling losses to Lakeside and it was an exciting opening quarter with them combining for 56 points with Rockingham leading 29-27 by quarter-time.

It was in the second quarter where Anneli Maley and Natalie Chou took over for the Redbacks as the home team put up 33 points to 18 to go into half-time leading 60-47.

Perth maintained control throughout the second half with the lead getting out to as much as 18 points and then the Redbacks went on to win by 13 points and improve to a 9-7 record on the season.

The combination of Maley and Chou is sure proving to be a mighty impressive one for the Redbacks and they combined for 68 points, 20 rebounds, nine steals and eight assists in the win.

Maley produced 35 points, 17 rebounds and five assists with 5/11 three-point shooting while Chou delivered 33 points, eight steals, three boards and three assists on 5/7 shooting from downtown.

Brooke Malone also had 13 points, four rebounds and three steals, and Mikayla Pirini 11 assists to go with five points and four boards.

It's back-to-back losses now for the Flames who are 13-2 on the season despite a huge night for Georgia Pineau who put up 36 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists and two steals on 13/24 shooting from the floor and 10/13 at the foul line.

Jess Jakens was up against her former team and on her old home floor and had 17 points, seven rebounds, two assists and two steals with Emma Gandini contributing 13 points, seven boards and three assists, and Shani Amos 10 points, six assists and five rebounds.

The Redbacks don't play again until hosting the Warwick Senators next Friday night while the Flames will be back at home next Friday to their southern rivals the Mandurah Magic.

Joondalup Wolves (65) lost to Perry Lakes Hawks (76)

Sam Ashby knocked down five three-pointers and the Perry Lakes Hawks made a hot start to set up the eventual 76-65 road victory against the Joondalup Wolves.

Perry Lakes arrived at HBF Arena on Friday night having won its last couple of games to be sitting inside the top four while Joondalup was heading in the opposite direction having now lost four straight.

The Wolves might have been at home but they were still without Emma Clarke, Jorjah Smith and Julia Chandler and what Perry Lakes were able to do was set up their eventual victory in the first quarter.

Perry Lakes shot out of the blocks with the game's first seven points before Joondalup hit the next eight, but from there the Hawks took charge and by quarter-time were leading 30-17.

The Hawks maintained a double-digit advantage most of the rest of the way to end up leading by as much as 16 points in the second half on the way to the eventual 11-point victory away from home.

The win improves Perry Lakes to a 10-4 record on the season to maintain a hold on a top four spot with three consecutive wins with Sam Ashby knocking down 5/8 from three-point land for 21 points as she settles back from her college career at the University of Pacific.

Ash Isenbarger also had another 11 points, six assists, four rebounds, two steals and two blocks for Perry Lakes, Mia Satie 10 points, nine boards, three steals and two assists, Eryn Fisher nine points and three steals, Beige Harris eight points and six rebounds, and Grace Stone eight points and six boards.

The Wolves' slide continues with five straight losses to see them now 6-7 on the season with Sarah Toeaina ending up top-scoring with 21 points and four rebounds on 8/13 shooting from the floor.

Darien Huff added 14 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals, Geraldynn Leaupepe 11 points, two boards, two assists and two steals, and Laniesha Paddon seven points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals.

The Wolfpack are back in action on Saturday away to the Eastern Suns while the Hawks get ready for a return encounter with Joondalup at Bendat Basketball Centre next Friday.

The Rockingham Flames welcomed back Jeremy Combs but it was the front court combination of Gorjok Gak and Jono Janssen that was instrumental in the eventual 90-87 win over the Perth Redbacks.

The Redbacks were back home at Belmont Oasis trying to snap a six-game losing run but doing so without captain Tevin Jackson up against a Flames team having also lost four of the past five, but having last up scored an important win over the Lakeside Lightning.

Rockingham were still without two-time MVP Devondrick Walker but did welcome back last season's import big man Jeremy Combs having parted ways with Quintin Dove during the week.

That gave Rockingham an impressive three-man front court rotation and they scored 20 points in the paint in the first quarter on the way to leading 30-22 by the end of one.

Scoring dried up for both teams in the second period with the Redbacks outscoring the Flames 18 points to nine to be leading 40-39 by half-time.

It was back to a high-scoring affair in the third quarter with the teams combining for 60 points and the Redbacks' advantage did get out to as much as seven.

The home team was still up 71-68 by three quarter-time, but Rockingham had the better of the final frame with 22 points to 16 to end up holding out for the three-point victory.

The Flames improve to 9-6 on the season with the win with Gorjok Gak outstanding with 28 points, three rebounds and two assists on 11/13 shooting.

Jono Janssen added 17 points and four rebounds on 6/11 shooting with Justin Beard hitting 4/9 from downtown for 15 points, 11 boards and three assists while Ryan Godfrey had 12 points and six assists, and the returning Jeremy Combs 10 points, seven rebounds and three assists.

It's seven straight losses now for the Redbacks as they slip to 4-13 on the season despite 28 points, six rebounds and two steals from Miles Gibson on 12/18 shooting from the field.

Joe Cook-Green added 19 points, three rebounds and two assists, Maris Colton 16 points and six boards, Jacob Formosa 11 points, five rebounds and four assists, and Ioannis Dimakopoulos 11 points, five boards, four steals and two assists.

The Redbacks don't play again until hosting the Warwick Senators next Friday night while the Flames return home to host the league-leading Geraldton Buccaneers on Saturday.

Joondalup Wolves (97) defeated Perry Lakes Hawks (89)

The Joondalup Wolves welcomed in a new import but it was Jonathan Wade and Christian Jurlina combining for 53 points and eight three-pointers who were huge in the 97-89 home win over the Perry Lakes Hawks.

With the Wolves trying to hold onto their top four position and the Hawks to their spot inside the top eight, it was always going to be a game with plenty at stake for both teams when they locked horns at HBF Arena.

Joondalup had a big win last Saturday night over Cockburn after a run of losing four of the previous five games and the Wolves welcomed in new import big man Jacob Wiley for the first time on Friday night.

Perry Lakes arrived looking to bounce back from losing at home to the Goldfields Giants and it was the visitors who made the hot start with 28 points to 21 in the opening period on the back of three triples from Dequan Abrom and two to Matt Leary.

Despite that, Joondalup worked back into the contest in the second frame with 25 points to 19 to cut the Hawks advantage to 47-46 at the half-time interval.

The Wolfpack then took over the contest in the third quarter and went on to outscore Perry Lakes 26 points to 14 on the back of a couple of three-point bombs each from Caleb Davis and Jonathan Wade.

The lead for the Wolves then grew to as much as 17 points in the fourth quarter and they would end up holding on for the eight-point victory to improve to a 10-4 record and retain a top four position.

Jonathan Wade came up huge for Joondalup finishing with 30 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two steals on 10/14 shooting from the field, 4/6 from three-point land and 6/9 at the foul line.

Christian Jurlina also hit 23 points, four rebounds and three assists with 4/8 shooting from downtown while CJ Turnage added 16 points, eight assists and six rebounds, and Caleb Davis 12 points, six boards and two assists.

New arrival Jacob Wiley showed encouraging signs in his first appearance too with 11 points, 13 rebounds, five blocks and three assists in 31 and-a-half minutes.

The Hawks now slip to a 7-8 record with back-to-back defeats with Dequan Abrom top-scoring with 26 points to go with seven rebounds, five assists and four steals.

Luke Phillips added 15 points, 10 boards, three assists and two blocks, Matt Leary 13 points, seven rebounds and three steals, Jaylen Key 11 points, four boards, three assists and two blocks, and Keegan Phillips nine points, five rebounds and three assists.

The Wolfpack are back in action on Saturday away to the Eastern Suns while the Hawks host the defending champion Geraldton Buccaneers on Sunday.
