Perth Redbacks’ men’s head coach Charles Nix reveals what he expects of the NBL1 West’s 2024 season – with the Redbacks’ gearing up to “put on a show.”

Amongst the many things coach Nix expects both from his team and the league itself, he has put a call out to the Redbacks community to assure them of a show-stopping season.

“I think it’s going to be highly competitive, as our team, we put high expectations on ourselves and I feel like our game nights are going to be better…We’re going to put on a show,” Nix said via Too Short for the League Podcast.

The Redbacks finished fifth on the ladder in 2023 as their season was cut short by the championship-winning Geraldton Buccaneers. Now walking into 2024 with a chip on their shoulder, Nix also explained the potential of a ladder switch – with teams working hard to avoid the bottom of the ladder.

“I expect some of those teams that were towards the bottom of the ladder to improve, and make like harder for some of those teams that were at the top of the ladder,” he said.

Further commenting on the competitiveness of the NBL1 West league, Nix said “I expect the competition to be better. Every year it’s improved so much, and the level of talent in the league from what I’m hearing is still very high.”

Tim Rendulic, newly appointed head coach of the Perth Redbacks’ women's squad was acknowledged by Nix, who had worked with Rendulic in the past.

“I’m stoked to have Tim back in my environment…I’m excited to see what he can do back at home.”
