The Sandringham Sabres have begun their signing season with a bang, securing the signatures of Melbourne United duo David Okwera and Dion Prewster, as well as WNBL stars Brittany Smart and Funda Nakkasoglu.
3x3 Pro Hustler and former Nunawading NBL1 champion Tom Wright is also joining the team for the 2022 Coles Express NBL1 South season.
Okwera and Prewster will be under the tutelage of United teammate David Barlow, who is building a solid squad after a tough year for the Sabres in 2021.
Prewster is currently on a one-year contract with Melbourne United, having previously won MVP of the NZBL.
He most recently enjoyed an outstanding season with the Wellington Saints, leading them while averaging 18.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 1.3 steals per game.
Smart will suit up for her first NBL1 season following her commitments with the University of Canberra Capitals, where she has been able to showcase her elite three-point shooting.
Nakkasoglu began her basketball journey at Sandringham at U12 level and has since worked her way up to WNBL level with the Sydney Uni Flames.
