Hobart Chargers superstar Kathleen Scheer won't be taking the floor in 2021, signifying the end of her incredible career in Hobart.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Scheer expressed not only her disappointment in not being able to return to the floor in 2021 but also just how much Hobart has meant to her.
Women's Head Coach Mark Nash released a statement to Chargers TV, reflecting on Scheer's time in Hobart.
"It's hard to put into words how much Kathleen means to our club," he said.
"(She was) a fierce competitor who gave her best every night on the court.
"(She was) a fantastic teammate who was loved by all.
"I was privileged to be her coach and I miss her dearly.
"Kathleen is an outstanding role model for girls and young women and was the face of the Hobart Chargers in the community.
"I know that Kathleen will excel in life off the court and she is a Charger for life."
Club President Brett McKay also publicly expressed his gratitude for the contributions Scheer bought to the greater basketball community in Hobart.
"Both Mark Nash and I spoke to Kathleen Scheer last night where she confirmed she would not be coming to Tasmania this season and would retire," he said.
"Kathleen has been a part of the Hobart Chargers family and a much-loved member of the Tasmanian basketball community for many tears and her efforts on the court, in the community and outgoing personality will be greatly missed by all.
"We wish Kathleen all the best in her future ventures in the USA and I hope that once the borders reopen, Kathleen will be able to visit her Tasmanian family once again for a fitting and well-deserved retirement event."
Scheer thanked the Hobart community for embracing her over the years both on and off the court.
"I am extremely disappointed that I will not be able to join the Chargers this season," she said.
"I have been looking forward to getting on the court in Hobart with the girls for over a year now.
"I miss Hobart and can't put into words how much the organisation, the team, the city and the people there mean to me.
"I am incredibly grateful for the many years I got to put on the Chargers uniform and play in front of packed houses.
"We really do have the best fans ever.
"Thank you Hobart for all the memories and for being my home away from home."
