The women’s Sutherland Sharks are through to the Semi Finals this week in the NBL1 East competition - but can they go all the way?

Last making the Grand Final in 2022 coincidentally losing to this weekend’s opponent, the Albury-Wodonga Bandits. Sharks head coach Adam Marjoram spoke to Hannah Higgins in their post-game win to the Canberra Nationals in a thrilling 83-60 Elimination Final.

Morjoram thanked his team for their constant “buy-in” after a season full of ups and downs, including him putting himself up for training with the girls when the squad numbers were low.

“They love the game, they buy-in every week whether we’ve got six players at practice or ten players,” he said.

The Sharks finished the regular season fifth on the ladder with a 12-8 win/loss record.

Returning WNBL star Lauren Nicholson top-scored against the Nationals with 29 points, seven rebounds and eight assists, while teammate Olivia White was powerful off the glass with a huge 21 rebounds.

Coach Morjoram was optimistic when asked on the girls’ title run chances.

“We’re confident in what we can do, at the end of the day if we make shots on game day we look really good, and if we don’t then we’ve got to grind and we’ve got to fight,” he said.

“We’ve started to show that we can fight through all of that adversity and win. So we’re really confident right now.”

The Sharks will hit the road this weekend and take on the 20-1 Albury-Wodonga Bandits down on the border. Watch the game on Saturday, live from 6:30pm AEST via NBL1.com.au or the NBL1 App.
