South Adelaide signs three players for 2021 NBL1 Central season

The South Adelaide Panthers rosters for the 2021 NBL1 Central season continue to take shape with the club announcing three signings this week.

Alex Starling and RJ Jarrett have joined the men’s team while Ashleigh Spencer has committed to the women’s team.

Starling is one of South Australia’s finest players, having won two Woollacott Medals (2014 and 2018). In the 2019 SA Premier League season, Starling averaged 21.3 points and 12.2 rebounds for the North Adelaide Rockets.

Starling joined the Panthers in late 2019 and has been elevated to the leadership group.

Jarrett joined South Adelaide after a strong campaign in the Darwin Championship League where he averaged 24 points and 11 rebounds per game. The crafty veteran, who has also played in the USA and China, brings length, athleticism and versatility to the Panthers squad.

"I'm eager to be able to a part of the South Adelaide community and see how things are done here on and off the court,” Jarrett said via South Adelaide’s Facebook page.

“I've only been in Darwin so it will be refreshing to see another part of Australia. I've heard great things about coach Petty and the NBL1 comp, so I've been preparing myself for a great championship season.”

Spencer brings WNBL experience to the Panthers, having played for the Bendigo Spirit from 2015-2018. She most recently played for the West Adelaide Bearcats in 2019 Premier League season, averaging 12.2 points per game.

“I’m really looking forward to getting out onto the court with this great group of girls and supportive coaching staff,” Spencer said via South Adelaide’s Facebook page.

“I’m excited to put together all of our hard work and chase the NBL1 championship after what was a difficult year for everyone in 2020.”
