SOUTH RECAP | ROUND 11 SATURDAY
WOMEN
Kilsyth Cobras (51) lost to Geelong United (90)
Geelong United improved to 16-0 on the season with the dominant 90-51 road victory against the Kilsyth Cobras.
Both teams had been in action on Saturday night with Kilsyth recording their fifth win of the season by beating the defending champion Waverley Falcons.
That at least gave them a degree of confident to take the challenge up to Geelong who recorded their 15th win of the season the previous night at home beating the Diamond Valley Eagles by 17 points.
It was a dominant start from Geelong showing no signs of complacency despite being clear on top of the standings by putting up 29 points to eight in the first quarter on the back of shooting 11/20 from the field including 3/5 from downtown.
That lead continued to grow for United the rest of the afternoon with it getting out to 24 points in the second frame, 37 in the third term and then 45 in the fourth before they secured the 39-point victory at Kilsyth Sports Centre.
Geelong are now 16-0 on the season to be closing in on the perfect regular season campaign similar to what the Bendigo Braves were able to produce back in 2023 on the way to winning both the NBL1 South and NBL1 National championships.
Nobody played more than 28 minutes in the win for Geelong and all 11 players got out on the floor for at least nine minutes with Hannah Hank producing 16 points and seven rebounds in under 10 minutes.
Gemma Potter played just over 24 for 16 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and two steals with Taylor Mole contributing 14 points, three boards and two assists, Lilly Rotunno 12 points and six assists, and Jaz Shelley 11 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and three steals.
Kilsyth are now 5-12 on the season following the loss and having split their weekend double-header with Shannon Dufficy top-scoring with 13 points, six rebounds and two assists.
Nikita Young added 11 points and four rebounds for the Cobras, Abby O'Connor 10 points, 11 boards, two assists and two steals, and Ally Bates six points and seven rebounds.

MEN
Kilsyth Cobras (92) defeated Geelong United (77)
The Kilsyth Cobras remained in touch of a top eight position with the 92-77 win at home over Geelong United on Sunday afternoon.
Both teams had played on Saturday night as well with Kilsyth losing on the road to the Waverley Falcons by 14 points while Geelong made a winning start to their weekend beating the Diamond Valley Eagles by 16 points.
Both teams remain outside the top eight and if they want to play finals do need to go on a winning run so there was plenty at stake in the match up at Kilsyth Sports Centre.
The Cobras made a strong start with 22 points to 15 in the first quarter and from there they were able to extend that advantage out to as much as 20 points in the second frame.
Kilsyth turned that into the 43-28 half-time lead and in the second half the Cobras maintained that double-figure advantage throughout on the way to the eventual 15-point victory.
Kilsyth ended up shooting 48 per cent from the field opposed to 42 from Geelong including knocking down 12/29 from three-point territory to 4/28.
The victory improves the Cobras to a 9-8 record to be knocking right on the door of the top eight by the end of Round 11.
Jamie Ahale top-scored for Kilsyth with 20 points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals on shooting 4/10 from three-point territory.
Hamish MacDonald added 18 points, five rebounds and two assists, Adrian Tomada 16 points, nine assists and two boards, Ben Ursich 12 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals, and Khadim Sy 12 points, 11 boards and two assists.
Geelong slips further from the playoff hunt at 6-10 despite splitting their double-header weekend with George Blagojevich providing 19 points, nine rebounds, three steals and two assists.
Tristan Forsyth had another 18 points, seven rebounds and two blocks, Liam Herbert 10 points, four assists, two boards and two steals, and DeMarcus Gatlin eight points, nine assists, three rebounds and two steals.
