Basketball Queensland (BQ) regrets to announce that the NBL1 North champions, Rockhampton Cyclones, have made the difficult decision to withdraw from the 2024 Mitsubishi Motors NBL1 National Finals on the Sunshine Coast.
This decision was made after careful consideration of athlete availability and player welfare, including multiple injuries sustained during the Grand Final Series.
With the North Conference women’s position now vacant, BQ conducted a process based on the National Ladder System implemented by NBL1 to identify a suitable replacement.
In light of this, BQ is pleased to confirm that the Southern Districts Spartans women’s team will step in to represent the North Conference at the National Finals. BQ appreciates their readiness to compete at such short notice and their commitment to ensuring the North Conference is well-represented.
The NBL1 extends their heartfelt congratulations to the Rockhampton Cyclones on an outstanding season, and extend our gratitude to the Southern Districts Spartans for taking up this opportunity and wish them the best of luck in the competition.
The Spartans now join the Mackay Meteors and the 2023 defending champions men’s Knox Raiders and women’s Bendigo Braves for the tournament.
