Sydney Comets announce roster for 2024

After their successful inaugural season, the Sydney Comets have locked in their core roster for the coming 2024 season. 

The women’s side made the Finals in their first season, finishing seventh in an impressive display in their first season – losing to the champion North Bears in the first round. On the men’s side, the team finished in 11th place, with only three wins outside the NBL1 East Finals. 

Here are some players to keep an eye on for the Comets next season:

Alexandra Kayrouz and Piper Anderson

The women’s team have locked in a pair of young stars to continue their development in the 2024 season. Both Alexandra Kayrouz (2004) and Piper Anderson (2003) started last season, with the pair averaging a combined 15.6 points per game.

Having experienced a taste of Finals pressure and learning under WNBL stars in Shyla Heal and Vanessa Panousis -- the pair of young stars will be ready to take on a larger role this coming season under Opals legend Shelley Gorman.

Anthony Mundine III

Rising star and NSW Nationals representative Anthony Mundine III will be a key player to watch on the men’s side.

The former Comets and the son of the boxing legend played five games for the NBL1 Noth’s Cairns Marlins last season before turning 18 years old. Playing under NBL assistant coach Lachlan Lonergan, he will have plenty of room to develop and grow back in his home state.

Johnny Crnogorac

The seven-foot Johnny Crnogorac made the move to the Comets last season and averaged 11.8 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game – becoming a key piece in their rotation with his presence on both ends. 

Being one of the main starters from last season to carry over, he will have a lot of responsibility as a leader on his emerging.
