The Wolfpack face the East Perth Eagles at HBF Arena

In their first double-header of the season, the Chambers Franklyn City of Joondalup Wolves hosted the East Perth Eagles, and then took to the road for part two of the ‘Battle of Joondalup’ against the Warwick Senators in Kayo’s Game of the Week! It was Fan Appreciation Round at HBF Arena, as loyal fans welcomed Briana Chambers home in her season debut following her graduation from Livingstone College in North Carolina.

The Wolfpack were in control for majority of the game thanks to a strong defensive effort. Peanut Tuitele was particularly dominant, collecting 7 offensive boards which gave her team valuable second chance opportunities to establish a 6-point lead by halftime.

The third quarter was a very even contest, however the Eagles were able to close the gap to a single point difference. The Wolves maintained control of the game heading into the fourth by converting shots at the free throw line, led by the offensive efforts of Sarah Toeaina, who provided 8 points in the final two minutes of the third quarter.

Eagles’ Laci Hawthorne and Sarah Allen turned the tables to start the fourth quarter with a 12-5 run, evening the score at 58 each. The Wolves hit back with a big 3 by Darien Huff but it wasn’t enough as a huge pair of threes by Sarah Allen put the Eagles ahead with only 30 seconds remaining in the game. The Wolves were unable to recover, losing the game 74-78 to end regulation.

The Wolves Men face the East Perth Eagles

The Wolves started strong with baskets made by CJ Turnage and Ethan Elliott, before a 7-0 Eagles run which opened a 9-point deficit. In the second, the Wolves were able to close the gap to just 4 despite scoring efforts by Eagles’ Sebit Reath, who scored 11 points in the second quarter. Some late fouls saw the deficit stretch back out to 8 by half time.

The gap continued to widen in the third as the Wolves were unable to convert from the line and from beyond the arc, until the fourth quarter where the Wolves outscored the Eagles 30-26, shrinking the large deficit to single figures. The margin proved too wide to overcome, and the Wolves were defeated 86-95 to end regulation.

CJ Turnage led the game with 22 points, 9 rebounds. The Flash Brothers Ethan Elliott and Jonathan Wade combined for 40 points and Caleb Davis led the Wolves with a double-double, 14 points and 13 rebounds.

The Wolves go head-to-head with the Warwick Senators

The Chambers Franklyn City of Joondalup Wolves took the fight to the Warwick Senators, with a chance to settle the score following the loss just two weeks prior in the ‘Battle of Joondalup’. It was a tough battle for the Wolves as they faced the Warwick Senators with many star players missing from the rotation, including WNBL player Emma Clarke, Jorjah Smith, Julia Chandler and Laniesha Paddon.

The Wolves were able to convert shots beyond the arc to start the game, which helped to keep the game close. The Senators defence adjusted, forcing the Wolves to attack the paint. The Wolves remained competitive, only being outscored by 1 in the second quarter, however turnovers by the Wolves gave the Senators more opportunities to widen the gap.

The Senators pulled away in the second half of the game following a series of runs. The Wolves were defeated 67-88 to end Round 9. Peanut Tuitele was again strong on the glass and pulled in 10 rebounds for another double-double. Game MVP Sarah Toeaina had a strong all-round performance with 20 points, 4 rebounds and 7 assists, Darien Huff had 14 points, 6 rebounds and Hannah Duncan had 7 points, 3 rebounds in the game.

The Wolves bounce back strong against the Senators

The Wolves were primed to bounce back after suffering their second loss of the season against the East Perth Eagles. The team came out of the gates firing on all cylinders, knocking down shots from everywhere on the court.

The Wolves were especially deadly from range, converting 50% of their attempts, which included a pair of 4-point plays including Caleb Davis and Jonathan Wade. Foul trouble hurt the Senators as 4 players had 4 or more fouls in the game. Game MVP CJ Turnage was again dominant with his inside presence, converting 75% of his 2-point attempts.

Wolves’ fans packed the stands, loud and in force, spurring the team to an explosive 34-point third quarter which included 7 threes made and opened a 16-point lead. Senators star duo Todd Withers and Michael Harris combined for more than half of Warwick’s total points as they fought to keep their team in the game.

The Wolves beat the Senators 108-101. CJ Turnage had 36pts, 9 rebounds on 62% shooting, Jonathan Wade added 28 points, 5 rebounds with 5 threes, Caleb Davis had 16 points on 4/6 shooting on his threes and Christian Jurlina added 13 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists.
