After three years at the helm of leading the Giants’ women’s team in the WABL competition, Robert Thomson has officially been given the role to lead the Goldfields Giants into their new era of basketball in the Goldfields as they join the NBL1 West women’s competition.
Thomson was one of the spearheads that pushed to get a Giants’ women’s team into the NBL1 competition and will build on the development squad he has built up in just a couple of years that culminated in a dominant 2021 WABL season, finishing top of the ladder in the regular season, and falling just short of glory in the championship game.
"It’s an honour to be named coach of the inaugural women’s Giants team," Thomson said.
"There is so much passion in the Goldfields for basketball and we now have the pathways for our talented female players to participate in Aussie Hoops all the way through to play at a Preeminent Development League level.
"We’re well into the recruiting process to add to our current squad of players from last season, and to be head coach of this team going forward is so exciting.
"I can’t wait to get the season underway."
Stay tuned for upcoming announcements in regards to player signings for the Giants’ women’s team as they prepare to compete in their inaugural season in 2022.
