NBL1 East All-Star Five member Alex Toohey has been critical to the Sydney Kings' success in NBL24.

Starting every game for the back-to-back champions, his impact was felt significantly during the Kings’ major comeback against the Brisabne Buillets on Sunday.

Last season for the 20-2 Centre of Excellence, Toohey averaged 17.4 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.7 assists as an MVP contender in the NBL1 East.

His scoring ability has translated to the NBL seamlessly, averaging 10 points a game in a starting role alongside some of the best talents in the competition.

Against the Bullets, he scored 12 points with two three-pointers made, three rebounds and a game-high Plus-Minus of 27, the Next Star is showing his worth in NBL24.

“Early in the season, still just trying to learn as much as I can,” Toohey said post-game

“But I feel comfortable out there, and now it’s just putting more things together.”

Kings head coach Mahmoud Abdelfattah leaned on Toohey all season, playing the 19-year-old 22 minutes a game and using him as a Swiss army knife defender.

In the post-game press conference, Abdelfattah said he’s never coached a player like Toohey.

“His basketball IQ is through the roof, you’d think he’s been in the league and been a pro for the past 10 years,” he said.

“Efficiency-wise, he was a plus 27, there are things that he does that will not be charted there are no stats for it. But he made winning plays for us.”

“His ability to guard one through five, I’m not sure who else can do that.”
