The Frankston Blues have announced the return of Dan Trist for the 2021 NBL1 South season. Trist will join the Blues following his season with New Zealand Breakers in NBL21.
The 6’8 forward played 10 games for Frankston in the 2019 NBL1 season, providing 14.1 points, 7.6 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game. He was one of six Blues players to average double-digit points in his second season with Frankston.
Head coach Andrew Harms spoke about Trist’s impact on the playing group, and the club.
“Dan has been a loyal and impactful member of Frankston basketball and this will be his fourth year with us,” Harms said.
“We love everything Dan brings to the floor and he is one of the premier bigs in the NBL1 – with a high basketball IQ and a multifaceted skill set for his size.
“We also love that Dan understands the importance our wider community plays in our priorities as a club.
“We see Dan having a successful campaign with the Breakers in the NBL and then joining us for the second half of the season and continuing to build on his legacy with Frankston.”
Trist spoke about his excitement and the momentum growing in the men’s program.
“I’m very excited to come back to the club after our cancelled season. We have a solid team and have been building up to something special. I credit the hard work of Wayne, Harms, and Jacko to put this group together," Trist said.
“This season we have managed to retain some great Australian talent that Blues fans can expect big things from. And I expect Harms and Jacko will be filling out the remaining roster spots with smart athletic players. I’m also looking forward to seeing some of our local Frankston Blues youth players step up and make greater contributions at both games and training.
“As a club, we are building a program that is something really special, especially after such an anti-climatic season (end). Last year we had all the guys together in February, had our preseason camp and we were as prepared as any team could be. But we have regained momentum and there is positive energy in the guys preparing.
“I think it will be an exciting year. I know it’s a bit cliche to say, but every year I come back I’m genuinely excited. The last time, we took it to a higher level and the Bendigo loss is still in the back of our heads. It’s still big motivation to come so close.
“This year we want to protect home and really take it to teams. I really like the roster we are putting together, to play some fast tough athletic basketball”
