The Warwick Senators have announced that Luke Brennan has signed as the men’s Head Coach for NBL1 West 2022.
This appointment takes over a highly successful era under Mike Ellis after six seasons of finals appearances including winning the West Coast Classic championship in 2020.
Brennan said: "I am excited about the opportunity to continue to grow the culture and build on the legacy that Mike and the team have established over the years."
Brennan has a strong coaching resume including a current Assistant Coach role with the Perth Wildcats, Head Coach of the Under 23 Men’s National Wheelchair team from 2015-2017, six years assisting in the SBL and Assistant Coach in the Australian Rollers wheelchair basketball.
"To be able to appoint a coach of Luke’s calibre to follow after Senators and Wildcats legend Mike Ellis speaks to the strength of the club," General Manager Michael Norman said.
"We value every individual and want them to reach their full potential through the avenue of basketball and we see Luke playing a key role in supporting this."
The club has a proud history of ensuring its juniors are developed and Brennan will play a pivotal role in seeing the program further developed.
Brennan said: "Warwick has done a fantastic job and I’m excited to work with a club that not only values success on the court but off the court, throughout the whole club."
"This is a difficult thing for me," Mike Ellis said.
"I loved coaching these guys and will miss them terribly.
"That said I believe this is in the best interest of the club as a whole, we have been speaking about the connections with development for our juniors to the NBL1 group for a number of years now and I know that Luke will be able to give that the attention it deserves.
"I am extremely proud that so many of the players in the NBL1 team are Warwick juniors and that the pathways have been established.
"Now Luke will be able to assist in the development of the younger players so that legacy continues.
"I am sure that Luke will do an outstanding job with the NBL1 team and has been around very successful programs for some time now.
"He will bring that wealth of knowledge to the group and continue to build on what is an outstanding program.
"I feel I am leaving it in good hands."
Warwick Senators thank Ellis for the tireless effort he has put into the lives of those in the club and are grateful for his continued involvement within the community.
