After spending the past three seasons with the West Adelaide Bearcats, Jasmin Fejo is ready to take on a leadership role with the Central Districts Lions.
The 23-year-old is a former WNBL player and the 2022 NBL1 Central Champion, but this coming season she will take on a new role as the go-to player for the Lions.
Fejo explained that towards the end of last season, she was in discussions with her sister, Renai - a Lions player - about possibly leaving her former championship team to play together with Central Districts.
“It was such a hard decision to make, there were a lot of tears involved,” Jasmin said on the SA Shotclock.
“I had a meeting with Joe Noone (Head Coach), I reached out to him, and we had a coffee and just spoke to him about (the team) moving forward.”
She said that coach Noone shares a similar personality and connection to the now Lions coach, having trained under Noone as the assistant coach in previous seasons.
Her impact should be immediately felt for the Lions who went 1-17 last season. In 2023 she averaged 15.7 points, 6.1 assists and 5.1 rebounds for the Bearcats, who sat out the top five by percentage alone.
“I just want to have fun and help some other players along the way,” she said.
“Centrals have definitely proved themselves last year that they can be taken seriously, and I’d definitely love to help that. Help them get in the right direction.”

During the offseason, the young star said the team has been working ahead of next year, to try to kickstart a new look for the Lions in 2024.
“We just want to have fun, we are doing all the fundamentals now, the basics, and we are going back to square one – which is actually not a bad thing,” she explained.
“We can get the cobwebs out now, and then by the time all the other players come in and once we get that full squad, it will be great. We can definitely build up and improve on the past couple of years, they gave us a run for our money last year.”
