The Eltham Wildcats are thrilled to announce the signing of Louise Forsyth for the 2023 NBL1 South season.
The 23-year-old Canadian grew up in Vancouver where she started playing basketball at 7 years of age. Forsyth represented Canada twice playing for the national team in U16’s & U17’s while winning gold at the 2015 FIBA Americas Tournament.
The 6’1 guard played five seasons in the NCAA due to the extra year of eligibility being given to athletes because of the impact of COVID-19 on multiple seasons of play. Louise played four years at Gonzaga and one year at the University of Idaho where she averaged 12.9ppg and 30.8% from behind the three-point line.
Forsyth is currently playing her first professional season for Pully in Switzerland where she is averaging 20.9ppg which included a season high 32 points against Helios.
Head Coach Matt Bongetti believes Forsyth is a perfect fit both on and off the court for his group.
"Getting a player like Louise is fantastic for our program. She is a high-quality person who fits exactly what we are looking for both on and off court, and will fit in well with the Wildcat community."
Louise is looking forward to making her mark with the Wildcat community.
“I am so grateful for the opportunity to sign with Eltham and play professional basketball in Australia. I think the pace and style of play that the club plays with as well as the family atmosphere in the club will be a great fit for me. I am also really excited to be joining the local basketball community in Eltham off the court and getting to know all the junior players.”
Louise will join the team shortly to prepare for the NBL1 South season that tips off on April 1st at Diamond Valley. You can watch Louise and the rest of the Wildcats in action this season with an Eltham Wildcats NBL1 Membership. The NBL1 represents the highest level achievable for players, coaches, technical officials and game day staff in the Eltham Wildcats pathway. It provides individuals in the north-east of Melbourne with a chance to be exposed to the national leagues. The Eltham Wildcats aim to have teams that strongly represent the north-east of Melbourne and players who’ve come through the Eastern Districts Junior Basketball Association (EDJBA).
