NBL1 East: Newcastle Falcons
The Newcastle Falcons are on the rise. Sitting pretty at third, on the ladder the Finals team from last season is looking to make a deep run in the 2023 post-season run.
It all starts with Nicole Munger, leading the team in all three major categories with an average of 18.8 points, 14.8 rebounds and 3.3 assists – the WNBL star is back with purpose.
After this weekend’s performance of knocking off the stacked Sydney Comets, the Falcons are set up for a great season ahead.
NBL1 North: Logan Thunder
The Logan Thunder put up a 2-0 weekend and Mikhaela Cann turned back the clock in Round 5. Across two wins she averaged 24 points, 9.5 rebounds and 6.5 assists.
They balanced out their record to 3-3 and are still awaiting the return of NBL1 North superstar Mikaela Ruef – which will bring the championship-contending roster back to full force.

NBL1 South: Waverley Falcons
The Waverley Falcons are 6-0 and the homegrown product Bec Cole has been the driving factor.
The WNBL champion is averaging 21.6 points per game and five assists for the undefeated team. On Sunday the Falcons had a clutch win at home, beating the Nunawading Spectres by five points – and it reassures Waverley fans that they’ll be in the NBL1 South Finals once again.
NBL1 West: Cockburn Cougars
Danish import Sarah Mortensen has brought a dangerous amount of scoring and rebounding to the 4-0 Cougars this year. In Round 5 she dropped 27 points and 14 rebounds and has seamlessly fit into the Cougars’ core of talent.

NBL1 Central: Southern Tigers
The Southern Tigers not only got the win in Round 6, in a convincing 21-point win over Lauren Mansfield’s North Adelaide Rockets – but they saw the return of their star Morgan Yaeger to the team.
Off the bench, Yaeger scored 14 points in only 12 and a half minutes as the scoring machine quickly integrated herself back into the team. Yaeger was rehabbing a back injury that she sustained in the past WNBL season, but she took away plenty of lessons being a part of the Townsville Fire’s championship run.
