Year Three of the Mitsubishi Motors NBL1 East Blitz confirmed

The Mitsubishi Motors NBL1 East Blitz is locked in for 2026, with Sutherland Basketball Stadium set to host the conference’s pre-season showcase on 21–22 March.

Following successful events at Maitland Federation Centre and Penrith Valley Regional Sports Centre, the Blitz enters its third year as NBL1 East’s premier pre-season hit-out gives fans the chance to see the NBL1’s favourite conference return for 2026. 

28 of the league’s 32 teams will be put through their paces in preparation for the 2026 NBL1 East season, which is set to tip off the following weekend on the 28th and 29th of March.

This is the first time of the year fans will get a chance to catch a glimpse at their squad’s newest additions, from local juniors switching to crosstown rivals in Myles Cherry and Ella Dent, to returning NBL1 East superstars in Will Cranston-Lown and Alex Higgins-Titsha.

Basketball NSW, Head of League and Competitions, Liz Mills said the league is eager to capitalise on its unprecedented growth in 2025. 

“From this time last year to now, the league’s trajectory has been exceptional. We’ve experienced significant year-over-year growth across our digital platforms, broadcast streams, and roster acquisitions,” said Mills. 

“The calibre of talent entering the conference has elevated the level of play, with high profile players not only signing in the East but also returning to strengthen the competition over the past 12 months.” 

“Much of the momentum we built throughout the season was generated at last year’s Blitz. It set the tone for our competitive standard and brand visibility. We’re aiming to replicate that springboard effect this year and use the event to launch another strong campaign.”

Each team will take the floor once across the weekend in a fully timed and officiated pre-season matchup, offering an early look at new combinations, fresh signings, and the overall landscape of the competition ahead of Round 1.

Beyond the on-court action, the Blitz will also serve as the NBL1 East Media Weekend, capturing the content fans know and love ahead of the season. From interviews and promotional shoots to behind-the-scenes moments with players and coaches, the weekend will help set the tone for the 2026 campaign.

The event will once again provide valuable preparation for Technical Officials, delivering important in-game experience in the lead-up to the season.

NBL1 East Program Manager, Jonathon Parkinson highlighted how pivotal the Blitz is for technical officials in both on-court preparation but relationship building with players and coaches. 

“The NBL1 East Blitz is shaping up as a crucial pre-season event, not just for the players, but for the referees too,” said Parkinson 

“It's a prime chance for the officiating crew to unify their approach on key areas of emphasis for the season. Crucially, it also allows them to connect with the coaches, ensuring everyone is aligned on the expectations for how the game will be called.”

Off the court, fans can expect a vibrant game-day atmosphere across both days. A dedicated NBA 2K26 gaming station will be running all weekend, while Red Bull will be there to help keep the energy high throughout the venue on Sunday, and you can bet the canteen, bar, and food offerings ensure there is something for everyone to enjoy between games. Players will also be available across the weekend with the opportunity for fans to score an autograph and take photos.
