Basketball in Tasmania will continue to grow as the NBL’s Tasmania JackJumpers have announced a further partnership with the NBL1 South’s Hobart Chargers.
JackJumpers assistant coach Jarred Weeks will become a “Special Advisor” to the championship-winning club. Weeks will assist the Chargers program throughout the season, providing over 250 NBL games of experience to the coaching staff and assisting in player development.
“I’m thrilled to take on this role and to further connect the pathways between the state’s NBL1 teams and the professional level” Weeks said.
2022 NBL1 South champion Jacob Richards was a key part in the pathway between the Chargers and JackJumpers.
He signed as a development player for NBL24 after multiple impressive seasons for Hobart, averaging 13 points and eight rebounds last season.
“We’ve seen the talent that these pathways can foster in Jacob Richards receiving a Development Player contract this season having come through the Chargers program,” Weeks said.
“We hope to further foster both Tasmanian and interstate talent through that pathway, and obviously strive for success for Tasmania year-round in both leagues.”
JackJumpers Chief Operating Officer Darren Smith and Chargers President Brett McKay both expressed excitement upon the further partnership.
“This is a great opportunity for both clubs, and the development of our coaches and athletes” Smith said.
“We’re excited to welcome Jarrad to the club in this capacity and continue to build a strong and successful program into the future” McKay said.
The JackJumpers will continue to support and engage with all three NBL1 clubs; the Hobart Chargers, North West Thunder (men’s) and Launceston Tornadoes (women’s) and provide assistance both on and off the court.
